New from New Mexico

New member from New Mexico here, a little story as to why I signed up on here...
Last car was an EG civic hatch, fun little car, sold it and got what I currently own, an FD rx7. I vowed to never own a FWD car again after owning the civic...
Anyway, I moved to New Mexico and am stuck with a car that makes a not so friendly and reliable daily and the roads here suck, so I've been looking around for an AWD civic wagon, decided to sign up on here, and here I am.
I found one for sale about 2 hours form here that has problem with overheating and is beat to ass, and he is asking $500 for it.
My old civic:

The FD:

I need a reliable car, that is capable of handling itself in rough terrain. I figured a wagon would do it fine.
If I get one my plans are to give it a proper tune up, check out all bushings, axles, the parts that take all the wear and tear, then probably swap in a d16z6. MAYBE boost the d16..not sure yet. Do more rugged suspension, throw a hitch on it, rack lights, and have fun with it.
Anything I should know about these cars that is specific to them? Thanks, and I look forward to meeting some cool people

Like the eg hatch! About 15 years back I used to let the local artist bomb my 65' VW van, usually each side would get redone about once a month or so.
Where in NM are you?
I was looking into a 4x4 wagovan but the guy with the engine that I was looking into has since sold the engine, and I dont want to have two vehicles that are not operational...haha.
