finished my rear speaker install with my rear headrest mod

since i lower my rear seats to move stuff often and i dont drive passengers that much i just wanted to keep the head rest removed but still keep it in the car just in case i do need it. i also wanted rear speakers but nothing too much just to have sound filled up in the rear.

here are some pics. enjoy! :D

One could mount it further back & lower.
  • mad thumbs up! if i still had rear seats (or an interior) i'd copy this!

is that a power inverter i see as well?

yeah, but it looks like this setup keeps everything totally clear of the cargo floor and the area above it. the speakers and headrests are pretty much over near-useless space...

I like it. what did you use to hold the headrests?

I used to have a toyota previa. they had folding rear seats that fold away to the side. they have mounts on the seats under carriage to hold the head rests. your idea makes me wanna go and find some to make my own holders.

    thanks.

i just went to home depot and picked up some cable wire holders for about 3 bucks or so. you would need two boxes which contain 4 each. then i used some small screws and a double sided tape to make sure it holds. the double sided tape is 5 lb holding capacity. but u still need to screw it in cause the head rests are over the 5lb cap. the measuring part is hard. youll notice a hump on one side. the other is not so hard but try to make them both line up evenly on both sides for asthetics. total costs is about less then 10 bucks and about 3 hours of fun installing. i actually enjoyed doing this mod.

here is what I was talking about. I went to a junkyard and found a set of blue and a set of grey.

Im liking that mod. I think i might have to do something like this. Maybe using some of the oem parts that the headrests originally go into. nice job
  • That's a great mod.

Can you tell us the brand name of the speakers and where you got the brackets?

these are the pioneer speaker pods.

the brackets for the headrests are from home depot.

the bolt spacers extenders are from home depot. they are in the hardware department. look for the longest spacers.

then get some long bolts and screws.

i do recommend an amp for the speaker pods. as they are recommended to have more juice. you dont have to use an amp. they power from any aftermarket stereo will work. you just wont maximize the speaker output.
