81 civic wagon, carb questions?

i have an 1981 civic wagon, i just bought it, it was running when i bought it but barely. it sputters and doesnt have any pep when i push the throttle, the last few days i been puttin in new plug filter both air and fuel, now i think i might of messed up with the carb, i got it running high idle and it runs alot more peppier, but i cant start it, there is two screws on the top of to carburator and i dont know if i should twist them all the way in or what? if someone could help me that would be great? again i put new plugs, new cap and rotor, new filter but when i have the whole top filter off, it runs alot better. i been trying to start it all day and now i noticed alot of gas coming from some overflow line or something and now it wont start? please i need help !!!

  • also i see the gas spitting out into the carburator so i know its getting gas lol, tons of gas, but how do i slow it down? i twisted those two screws both in and all the way out, and no difference. also the butterfly on the carb was more open when its hotter, and now it looks a bit closed? any ideas

Check the timing . Also did this sit for any amount of time before you bought it ? If so , then you might have to make sure the carb gets cleaned out real well . There are a lot of small passages in there and they need to be clear . Try not to start adjusting anything till you can at least get it to run . Also I would suggest buying the manual for it . Tuning and adjusting carburators can be tricky if you don't know much about them .
  • ya i got to the point when im soo effin irritated im gonna just sell it for 500$ bucks , it ran like poop,, i remember spraying some carb cleaner and it ran ok for a little, now its back to no start, and it floods it, like i see gas coming from some vapor canister ...this really blows
