Differences between the Manual and Power steering racks!

Here are some pictures of the differences, you can tell right away there is a BIG weight difference:

Here is the mount that has a different diameter. The Passenger side mount is larger on the power steering.
I used a Crx Si front rear subframe. From my understanding all EF's front subframes are the same. The only difference is if its power steering or manual steering, and then it comes down to that mount.

    "front rear subframe." :head explodes:

Great info. Did you get a new rack, or refurbed an old one?

So, my subframe is bent and I'm trying to get a replacement. Pullapart wants 68 plus all the work to get it. There is one on ebay for 100 but I emailed them and it is off a non-powersteering. Is it so big a difference that I couldn't swap the powersteering on to the new subframe? This thread has good info so I figured I'd keep it alive instead of making a new post. Thanks.

You would be faced with some major modifications to the subframe to make a power steering rack fit the manual steering rack subframe. As mentioned above, the seat in the subframe for the passenger side mounting of the rack is a smaller radius on the manual rack subframe than the power steering subframe (the power steering rack is a larger diameter). You would need to modify the subframe to a larger diameter radius where the rack bolts in for it to fit properly.

I would suggest you keep looking for a power steering rack subframe or also change your steering rack to a manual one. If you were going the other way (putting a manual steering rack into a power steering rack subframe) it is simply a matter of making some reducer bushings and moving one bolt hole (this is what I did on my car).

Ok. It's what I figured, just not what I wanted to hear lol. The hunt is on. That's what I get for playing god with my wagon on an old logging road.
  • What was the part # for the bushings on the manual rack?
Every time I go to order the bushing set it tells me it's for PS rack only.

Energy Suspension don't seem to have an application for the manual rack. The only difference is the large bushing that wraps around the rack on the passenger side. The other 4 small bushings that go through the rack where the 4 bolts go on the driver's side are the same for both the manual and power steering rack.
