The way things work out

So, since my wagon purchase, I have sidelined my boosted 00 civic. Recently started her up for the first time in about two weeks and what do I notice when I pop the hood?

my seals are completely blown, great way to start the morning huh? well at least I have this guy I was planning on using

But where karma comes in to play, later that night at my buddies house he tells me about a B20 his buddy has, I inquire because they are all accord guys, and the motor was yanked out of a running CRV with 109k, has low compression in #1 cylinder, but it essentially a longblock. Sounds too good, I ask the price, $100, I was in awe. So needless to say, later that night I came home with this bad boy

Not too sure on the plans yet. Plan on replacing the head with a p8r one, (84mm combustion chambers, non vtec) and maybe pair with an ls/gsr tranny, do the dpfi-mpfi conversion and 5 speed swap.
well its up in the air and I'll shut up now, sorry for the pic quality

Recommend a B16 or GSR tranny with an LS fifth.
Have fun with it.
Never heard of the p8r head before my buddy mentioned it to me, was going to run chipped obd1 ecu, but what are you using in your eg out of curiosity?
Wagon is my school mobile, so gsr w/ls 5th would be ideal, but trying to keep things stockish and on a budget lol.
Probley going to get from an oversized TB, holly 68mm?, and bored out gsr mani for the B20 from a friend who has no need for them anymore.
How much does a B series VTEC head and intake set you guys back?
Just a bolt on stock makes a massive difference to the B20.
I would expect a working, assembled vtec head to run $300+, where as the p8r head I'm keeping an eye out for should be around $200, because it doesn't have all the fancy vtec mechanisms lol. I want to stay away from vtec as it is one more thing to worry about and this is going to be the reliable motor thrown in the daily driver.
BTW, the stock b20 head is identical to a b18a/b, p75 I believe??, from what I have researched, correct me if I'm wrong
It's about on par with what we would pay, but B20 heads can usually be had for free or very little because everyone swaps them for VTEC straight away.
Well if you can find a p8r jdm B20 head, let me know, trying to keep things simple and stay away from putting on a vtec head, but plans change...
It's the one head a few of us are looking out for.
A while back I made a no-tec motor. A B16 with B20 head on it. Just to prove a point really and becasue everything going into it was essentially waste.
2mm head skim, about 12.5:1 compression. B20Z cams.
Masses of torque but sod all power up top. Naturally.
Some crazy fool actually stole it !!!
We figured on trying it again if we could find the head with bigger valves and then concrete the water jacket and run insane amounts of nitrous a 1/4 mile at a time.
So far no good on finding the head.
Most of the B20's here are from our UK market. Rare to see an import one.
Are US and UK specs similar? I know that the EDM stuff is a little different with more interior options and such, but believed they had smaller motors(1.5 and 1.3L).
Sidenote, was listening to the radio and the DJ took a call from a guy who went on a rant about horsepower and said only Americans use it and countries like UK just use engine displacement. I was drunk and yelling at my buddy and the radio, but you measure in power in Joules and torque in Newton meters correct?
Measurements for sizes always metric, often with inches as an additional measurement.
If you buy something by weight in a supermarket it must be sold in metric but imperial can also be on the packaging. Metric has to be primary tho.
It was in a CRX for a while. It was just the engine stolen tho, it was out of teh car at he time. Crazy thing to steal. We were hoping it'd end up on ebay so we could nail them being one of a kind.
We got the B16 in the CRX and Civic in 90 for the EF, so were a little ahead of teh curve. Belgium got a 1.3 CRX but we only ever saw a D16 DOHC and B16 DOHC in the CRX.
My B20 is internally stock. Just a chipped OBD1 ecu with B20 fuel map, custom intake, ITR exhaust manifold, cat, modified jdm ITR midpipe, and a twin loop. Currently with an LS tranny, but will be making a hybrid tranny from my spare Si/SiR S4C and the LS S80 (I'm Canadian, so it's from an SiR)
It's not bad. I don't race or anything, so it's just a daily with torque. P8R is the jdm head with 33mm intake valves. VTEC sized--33mm vs 31mm.
That's what I'm looking for, some good ole reliable low end torque
