Needawagons -Got a wagon! (build thread)

I finally located me a decent wagon last week and went today and looked it over and now she's mine! Its has over 200,000 on the car, and 180,000 on the motor the guy sand. I ended up paying $1650 for it, and drove it 2 hours back home. All in all it looks like its a good start for me, and on wed my next day off ill start diving into it and cleaning it up. As of now I only have one cell phone picture. On this wagon I want to first start off by cleaning it, basic tune up, fixing the rear speaker pods, finding the back quarter window trim, and just go from there to lowering and so on. So check back! I should have more pictures wed night.

Here are some pics of the wagon b4 I had a chance to clean her. She is all clean up now with new painted bumpers but it has been raining since I cleaned her up so I will take pictures soon. Sorry for the crapy cell phone pics. These pics actually make the car look better than what it really was. There was junk everywhere on the floors, covered in dirt, bumpers are fadded out, back hatch lift supports didnt work or anything. I have done tune up stuff, and replaced back lift supports, and painted the bumpers with bumper coating. Put two new upper ball joints in it, and two new wheel bearings, cleaned the interior and all.... ive been busy in the last day.

And there was window tint adhesive over all the windows, which took forever to get off!

Wheel since the bank account is running dry and starting a new job i havent really done much but a little tinkering here and there.

So in the past few days I removed the factory roof rack, patched the holes, removed headliner, added dynamat to help with the roof shacking, and also recovered the headliner with Navy Digital Camo. I also used a magic eraser on the oh s*** handles, and the sun visor to clean them up. On Sat I will have to take it back out and redo it considering that the 3M adhesive did work for like 4 hours but started to make like little balls of adhesive on the headliner and starting to let go already. I will end up buying the loctite adhesive spray. Let me know what you guys think.

great improvements man. my roof has a little surface rust just like yours. did you do anything to stop it/remove it?

the only thing i can think of is that the previous owners over-loaded the roof rack and so the roof sags a little and some how water got in?

I didnt take pictures yet, but i dont have any rust on top, that mostly dirt and glue... i got most of it off with a pressure-washer and adhesive remover.

And thanks guys for the headliner comments.

Oh i see what your talking about, That is just dirt build up from where the holes in the roof rack wasnt sealed and dirt got in and built up. So all i did was wash it off. But they do make some really good stuff for rust called Por 15. I have used it on my beetles and it works wonders! http://www.por15.com/

So I managed to get a little time in this weekend for the wagon. I took my roof rack off my xb and put it on my wagon since she has become my DD now. I went to the bike store today and bought a smaller fairing for the front since the xb's was twice as big. I also had to put new tube seals in so while I had the valve cover off I went ahead and painted it. I also took my old headunit I had in my old honda accord and stuck it in the wagon and put 4 alpine 6.5's all the way around. Let me know what you think.

So as usual I got bored this morning and trying to waste time b4 work so, I decided to drive up to Beavers Used Honda and Salvage in NC (1 hour away). Honestly I can say I will never go back again, you can not go in the yard to get your own parts, and they are way to over priced. Since It was a long drive I ended up purchasing the two back window trims, and a rearview mirror for $50 bucks.

  • So do you plan on doing the pillars in camo as well? Or are you sticking with just the headliner?
  • Are you in the Navy or something? Where did you get the blueberry fabric for the headliner? I'm in the reserves, we call the NWU "blueberries" here.

I like the dynamat idea. Tell us how it works out for you.
  • that was some good work man, keep it up. lovin the clean ass wagon

Dude, your car is lookin' sweet. I like the wheels painted white! I've never been to beaver's myself, but your not the first person I've heard talk about there over pricing. Where you at? I'm in Winston-Salem, lookin for some more NC wagon folks.

Sorry guys ive been MIA for a while, I have had a lot on my plate. Ive also been broke so havent done much to the wagon except the Home Depot handles for the back seats, and installed a map light from some GM product (freebie!). Ill post pictures of it up in the morning when I can take a better picture with my phone. And for the headliner, I got it at a place called marry joes from around here, and it actually fail down last week so as of now I ripped it out (the material was to heavy to stay attached). And for the factory rack, it was broken thats the only reason i took it off, so I just trashed it.

So Thanks again everyone! And I'll update this in the morning with pictures of my map light, and some few other things I did!
