A/C making ticking noise just as I began recharging(R134a)

So yeah, I was recharging my A/C(134a) with a can purchased @ autozone. Just as it began to pump in there... a ticking started... now its ticking fast.... whole bottle is empty, disconnected it, and went inside car...ice cold. turned off a/c switch and the ticking stopped.
So whats up w/ that? :x
I figure that if the a/c works well for a week or two i know its fine(no leaks)
But as far as the ticking goes... i dont know where to begin. Is the compressor working but going bad? or virbating and hitting something?
:?: Has anyone ever experienced this :?:

Watch the compressor clutch and see if the "tick" coincides with the compressor cycling on/off. I bet that's what you're hearing.
3 things (that I can think of offhand) will make the clutch cycle off.
1) pressure switch - too high or low. Rarely a faulty switch, more often a restriction in the system or a faulty metering device (expansion valve). This is where actual gauge readings are invaluable, as you can watch the fault happen. Could even be a low charge. IIRC the system capacity is roughly 30 oz.(134a)
2)Thermostatic switch - senses evaporator temperature and turns off the compressor to prevent freezing of the coil. ( almost surely NOT your problem, it ain't had time to freeze)
3) WOT - I've noticed mine cuts out when you stomp it. IDK if it's from the TPS sensor input or what. Again, not likely your problem.
