Megasquirt on my wagon.

I started another thread asking questions about boosting my zc. http://www.hondacivicwagon.com/bb/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=7622&p=83491&hilit=megasquirt#p83491

That was a while ago, since than i did over the road truck driving and just didn't have the time to play with my car. I'm back home to stay now and it's game time. I used megasquirt on many other cars so I feel comfortable using it.

Some of you who would like to use it but have no idea where to start this is a good place to do some research, scroll 1/4 of the way down the page http://buddyabaddon.spaces.live.com/default.aspx?wa=wsignin1.0&sa=48637815

For more look here http://www.diyautotune.com/tech_articles/how_to_megasquirt_your_honda_acura.htm

The first link tells you the most important information, the pinouts on the factory harness and how to hook it up to the megasquirt as a plug and play without hacking up your factory harness.

There are many ways you can use megasquirt to control the ignition (the spark) The first link tells you how to make it work with the stock distributor.

There is other information out there that uses the ford EDIS (Electronic distributor ignition system). The only thing I dont like about this is if you try to use a rev limiter via spark cut the edis module defalts to 10* and never cuts spark. You need to use a fuel cut. With boost this is very bad especially if your using a two stage rev limiter.

So I decided to use megasquirt to directly drive a coil pack. It's the same pack found on a dodge neon or a ford escort. I use it in wasted spark mode and I have limitless control over my ignition timing and spark cut. That information can be found here http://www.diyautotune.com/tech_articles/how_to_megasquirt_your_ford_zetec.htm

For my hardware i'm using a standard megasquirt 2 chip on the V.3.0 PCB moded with two coil drivers from diyautotune.com. As for the crank pickup i'm using a 36-1 wheel from a 1996 mustang v6 and a vr sensor from a 1995 ford taurus. And a coil pack from a 1999 escort zr2 with the ztec motor.

My wideband O2 setup is from 14point7.com The one I'm using has been discontinued. They now sell the same one but with a case.

    Good stuff.

I will be using Megasquirt on my Nissan. I take it you haven't boosted it yet? Do you have a good base map for the DOHC ZC? I would be interested in running Megasquirt on my wagon as well to help in the tuning on my supercharged ZC.

here is what i used. This is for a n/a stock setup. Both tables will have to be dramatically changed to register boost. 100kpa is atmospheric pressure at wot (wide open throttle) from this point on you will have to give higher values so megasquirt can be used in boost.

By using this chart you can see that the stock 2.5 bar map sensor that comes in the megasquirt will do just fine.

Also I do suggest keeping your VE and spark tables as tight as you can, for example if you know your not going to rev over 7500 rpm dont make the tables set to 10,000 rpm just to say you have it, use the rev limiter. And if in my case i'm only going to run 7psi don't set the tables all the way up to 250 kpa. What will happen while your driving a large margin of the table won't be used making your tuning efforts harder. there will be large gaps between each cell that the megasquirt will have to emulate leaving a huge gap for error.

Also i forgot to add that in megasquirt world 0 psi is 100kpa. in our world 0 kpa is 0 psi. so you will add positive pressure (boost) on to 100, this is why i gave 250 kpa as an example, 20 psi is 150 kpa, but to make the megasquirt understand that you have to add the first 100. I hope that makes sense.

Thanks for the information. I am going to get this thing running first with all the stock hardware and then putting the megasquirt in. So when I go this route I will probably have some more questions. Thanks again for the info!!
