  • The igniter and the seatbelts latches are the the two big recalls on the 88-91 models. CALL your local dealer and check before you go in and waste your time.
I've "read" some accounts of other 88-91 owners that have been turned away because the recalls have expired, or some such.

The seatbelt is a lifetime warranty.
  • Yes, the seatbelt has a lifetime warranty. However, there is a difference in the seatbelt latch "recall" and the "lifetime warranty" that covers the seatbelts.
On the recall, it replaces a specific part that has been known to fail. Which is why you were able to get the igniter replaced despite the car being fifteen years outside of the engines warranty. Even still, some people are saying the "recalls" may or may not be honored these days.

    definately worth lookin into
  • Ive heard about the seat belt warrenty, but was never sure what it was all about.

My CDM Civic driver side belt has started to fray. Is this what the "lifetime" warrenty covers? Even if Im the second owner?
  • Yes...as long as the car is able to pass the local mandated safety inspection(with the exception of the belt) and its not a salvage title, your seatbelts are covered under the lifetime warranty .

 Yoo Wgn owners :You better get your seat belt fixed under the Honda Lifetime Warranty. This apllies to the FREE Upgrades too. When all the spare parts are depleted there's NO more placements from the dealer. :| HURRY :!:
  • is this jus for the wagon?
  • mvmmvm Wagonist
Im on the phone with them right now about both the Dizzy and the Seat belts.

I will post back with an update.

Well the most recent distributor base code is #30105-PM5-A05. Thats just for the bare base alone. The actual recall was on the Igniter only and mine doesn't apply.

Although they did mention a difference in the 6 or 8 pin. Got me ? Maybe a harness difference or the 1.5-1.6 or something?

Also, seat belts ... They told me they only keep stock up to 15 years and so what ever they have is what they have. If the colors dont match at least you will have a function seat belt. :)

NO.It's for '88-91 Civics & Accords.Check with the Honda website or Dealer.Seat belt applies to all Honda's.

So..."life time" warranty actually means "until we run out of parts".

Thats what I was told by EJ Josphson the Lead Custumer Service Tech of the North American Honda Division.

They told me he was one of the best known Honda Guru's !! That guy was full of usefull knowledge.

YOU can check if your igniter has been RECALLED by looking at the VIN nimer on FIREWALL and if there is a PUNCH mark above letter H - it has been done!
As for seat belt I donno!
    Cheers!

really need to get my seatbelts checked out... i dont think they really work anymore.. :S

as far as the ignition upgrade goes, i dont have a punch on my firewall... better check that too.. even though my local Honda dealer is a mother fooker when it comes to service :x
  • Punches on the firewall rarely happen on warranty work I wouldnt trust if the punch is there are not. As far as the automatic slider belts go, those are not under warranty because they are electrical, however the manual belt would be, assuming the belt wasn't cut or there dog chewed on for years etc, I've seen it all! About a month ago i had a 90-93 body style accord come in for a passenger automatic belt not opperating correctly, I think he thought it was going to be under warranty but it wasn't :? Thats when I first learned that the slider belts arn't covered

Ive had the auto belts in a 91 Civic sedan replaced for free. No questions asked and across the street at Acura they replaced everything in my 91 Integra that had anything to do with the auto belts. Including all the rubber gaskets. Ive also had to go back and have adjustments made to the driver autobelt a few times. All 100% free. Ive never been asked a penny for seatbelt work at the local Honda/Acura dealers. You guys getting turned away is for whatever reason is bullshit.
  • Honda calls it a "goodwill gesture" they take into consideration your previous service history and if your a good outstanding customer. If all adds up they may goodwill it, from what I've seen; if they do it with no service history, buy yourself a lotto ticket cause thats luck!
  • shenrieshenrie Council Member
I have never spent cent one at the dealer unless you count parts, and those are bought through the shop my girl works at. I know numorous people here that have also had all thier seatbelts fixed free of charge. I guess all the Idaho people get the gesture, lol. Maybie it has something to do with the amount of people in the area?? The lack of population??

i went into my local honda dealership...

they said they would fix the seatbelts IF it was an electrical problem.
if it was mechanical, they would not.
they also wanted my car for 1 day just to look at it.

has anyone disabled the autobelt's "beeping?"
my autobelt is broken and loose, so it "beeps" a lot.
  • SiWagonSiWagon Council Member
Wrong!Even if it's mechanical they'll fix it.Talk to the Manger, then if no luck talk to the district supervisor(basically keep going higher up).Or goto another dealer.Show them the warranty.

Yes you can disconnect the beeper.Every Civic I 've had I disconnect it.It's SOo annoying.

i fixed my autobelts with a couple of inline fuses. the fuse box that was on the positive battery terminal on my wagon was all corroded and broken. couldn't find that box anywhere, so I cut the clip off the wires, that plugged into the box, and spliced in inline fuses and attached them to the terminal... works perfect, no beeping and the belts move properly.
  • Honda will replace the seatbelts if they do not function to keep you safe... Electric belts or not. Dealers often get this confused (especially because not all advisors have worked around Honda or in the dealership too long). Get ahold of the right people and you'll get the right answer (yes, keep going higher). If the car is salvage, or if it is broken other than a defect (ie dog chewed, cut, locked from an accident) it will not be done for free. Hope that helps.
  • sometimesidosometimesido New Wagonist
old topic, what vw guys do is put a little resistor(forget what kind) on the wiring so it doesn't beep anymore, then switch manual belts from older or newer car. taking out the auto parts all together.
