Where to cut to get to the fuel pump

*sad pictures at the bottom*

Hey everybody, I'm trying to get a working fuel pump out of my wrecked wagon. The problem is that the car has been tossed right side up into a scrap metal bin with a civic sedan laying on top of the front of the car. There is no hope to get under it there is old rusty barbed wire and broken glass, plus no room to remove the tank once it's off. SO I am going to use a cutting wheel to cut back the sheet metal inside the car so that I can just pull the pump out from the top.

Does anybody have any idea specifically where I should cut? I've only got a few spare worn out old cutting wheels, so I need to try and minimize my cutting. I have an idea of where it should be based on the pictures found in the FSM, but I have no clue if this wagon gas tank is exactly the same. I'd hate to cut through the pump and screw it up! Any input would be GREATLY appreciated, and if you happen to have a picture, you would save my life! This bin the cars are in is probably getting taken to the scrap yard tomorrow, so I have to try and get in there soon.

thanks in advance!

Thomas

Headline:Man Blows Self Up Cutting Fuel Pump Out.

Forget aboout it.Rockauto.com is blowing them out for $42-$45 each NEW plus shipping.
Pull one out of a '90-'93 teg,Vigor(year?) or Legend(yr?).Check, but I'm pretty sure it's the same pump.

Forget about nothing! My carefully-calculated safety-conscious badassness allowed me to cut the sheet metal out of the way and remove the pump.

I wouldn't recommend doing what I did though. It is rather dangerous, especially if you don't know what you're doing. I spent a lot of time cutting through shit that I really didn't need to, just to make sure that I didn't cut into the tank or any of the lines.

BUT I got the pump out and so I'm good to go! $50 is a good price on a pump, I love rockauto, but I am so beyond broke right now that I can't justify spending money on ANYTHING that I can get/fix for free. So free fuel pump for me  , just took a bit of effort and a loooong extension cord.

    LOL!

So unfortunately after getting the hatchback pump out of the car, I found out that the wagon pump is different and will not fit in the hatchback gas tank. SUCKS FOR ME. All that cutting for nothing! Anybody need a wagon fuel pump?

I don't plan on it!!! It was really sketchy. I had to stop cutting every few seconds because it was shooting sparks onto the top of the tank and some of the dirt that was caked on would start smoking. Not good, but I just took it REALLY SLOW.

On another note, I realized that I could swap over JUST the pump from the working wagon assembly onto the hatchback's fuel pump housing. The housing was super rusty, but I cleaned it up pretty good with a screw driver and some sandpaper. It also needed to be rewired because I didn't think I needed it when I removed it and I cut the power cable to short..... So hopefully I did a good enough job of isolating the power wire's signal through the top of the pump housing down to the pump so that the 12v doesn't connect with the grounded pump housing. I think that would make the car blow up. Hmmm.... I guess I better check that out a little closer before I install it......
