Code 17 HELP!

need some help with code 17 (vss sensor) i have a d16z6 swapped rt4wd wagon thats running on a p28 ecu now i dont think that the wagon has a vss sensor i could be wrong but all help is appreciated! :mrgreen:

    VSS is the speedometer drive. Is your speedo hooked up?

    yeah its hooked up and works seems to be about 5mph off. Im going to check the speedo cable tomorrow.

    Is the P28 looking for an electronic VSS? I don't know what year the non-cable one started, just a thought.

    There is a cable speedo that hooks to the cluster. The cluster then converts the signal and sends it to the ecu

    obd1 cars have an electronic speed sensor where the cable sensor is in obd0 cars......your vtec won't work till this is fixed......i'm guessing you just swapped it??

    Did you not read what I wrote? The cable just drives the speedo. The cluster converts the cable speed to electronic and sends the signal to the ecu. Even obd0 ecus have to have a speed sensor signal and it's not like you hook the speed cable into the ecu.

    If your OBD0 to OBD1 ECU adapter doesn't have a connection for the Speed Pulser (OBD0) to VSS (OBD1), therein lies your problem.

    What makes you think your speedo is out by 5mph? Is the cable properly inserted into the transmission? That could lead to intermittant speedometer operation which the ECU could see as a VSS failure.

    the speedo cable wasnt properly inserted in the trans one code down one to go!
