    I used a pressure washer...
  • Clarification - Use the DG Yellow can of oven cleaner..not the fume free (It leaves a white residue).

Protect ur paint and avoid the belts..but u peeps know that already.

I will post pics soon to show the clean baby..

FYI..I still have all the factory stickers under the hood and the original owners manual..maybe I should scan it in and share with my fellow Wago's..
  • Here are some pics after DG Oven Cleaner and a little Cleaning with UV protector. Not a perfect job but much better than before.

Looks great man, I would just be afraid to use that stuff for fear it would eat your gaskets up and your rubber hoses...that stuff is lethal! I used to use it when I worked at a grocery store and had to use those industrial strength gloves, and it still burnt the inside of your nostrils. And yes it was the Dollar General kind.
  • That's why you hose it down real good..then use UV protection over stuff. At this time I have zero leaks and she purrs like a Cat!

The UV stuff will protect your hoses...rinsing it off WELL is the key

"Aussie Degreaser" is what has worked pretty damn well for me, that and Simple Green.

I have always used Simple Green diluted with water. 50/50 Simple Green/Water combo has always worked wonders for my cars, and most importantly it leaves no residues of any kind.

I also do not ever follow up any of my engine cleanings with any "shiney" spray as in my opinion it looks too glossy, and dirt usually sticks worse to the shiny stuff rather than uncoated engine parts.

This pic is of a Civic that I purchased for ONE DOLLAR and the engine bay was as bad, or worse, than the dirty engine pic the OP posted:

50/50 Simple Green/water was sprayed upon cold engine. I then take a SOFT wheel brush and dunk it in car washing soapy water, scrub everything I can reach, and then hose off with a regular water hose. No pressure washer needed. I usually then crank the engine and close the hood after I wipe all reachable painted surfaces with a shammy - this sort of "steams" everything dry.

I'll have to agree with simple green as an engine bay cleaner.
  • I merely voiced an option which I used. There is no "right" way, just what works for your needs.

The important thing is that you do clean the engine bay.

one fella reccomends WD40 as cleaner. It is good for moving sticky residue of stickers and caked on greasy gunk. I use a pressure washer, some Armor-All knock off stuff and some windex stuff.
