Perusing John's photobucket account, I cam across this. Its [what I think anyways] a pretty cool picture from when he first got it.

Nice to see the Ghetto fisheye in full effect. Get this thing running!
  • I'm plannin on finishing assembling the engine tomorrow. I was originally going to do iet yesterday, but the whole getting called out at 6 am for work and then staying up for 28 hours straight working put a kink in yesterday's plan, as well as doing anything today as I slept all day.
  • I thought I got a good deal on my wagon. But free is the always the best deal.
  • Well, the engine is gonna go in it tomorrow. I've been on the road for work for almost a complete month, so its feelin good to get a few days to myself.

Today, I put the TB on, dizzy, Valve Cover, and Alternator and bracket (after searching for the bracket forever) and went and picked up a friend's hoist (thanks SprockRally!). Tomorrow I'm going to rebuild one of the axles, and then start boltin her together.

I also picked up a woodgrain wheel for it, and got the hub, so I need to put that in. Then I get to start rounding up positive pressure goodies for it!
  • nice to see this build

    j/k
  • I'll post up pics of the process tomorrow - its been slow going as I've been gone 22 of the last 30 days or so. Sorry. Family, Work and my Dogs are kind of my biggest priorities in life. Working on cars is something I do to make my days pass when I'm home and done with paperwork from my job. You can't build these things without paychecks, right?!
  • you know me...

    it was a supporting act...

  • Today was a bust. I installed the clutch to the engine, and when I went to replace the throwout bearing in the transmission, I found out the wrong one had come with the clutch kit. So, I basically wasted 5 hours this afternoon going from part store to part store to try to find the right one, as well as friends houses to see what they had laying around with no avail. I did check the clutch disk to the transmission, and the splines are right, so at least thats a plus.

So, tomorrow before I leave town the plan is to go to Honda and order one so it is here when I get back. Goddamn I was in a shitty mood earlier, my whole goal for today was get the engine in and running and I made it nowhere....

Anyways, here's a couple shots of the steering wheel I bought for it:

  • Well, the wind died, and the sun came out for this afternoon at least. I got off my lazy ass and went and got the engine sitting in the bay. All thats left to do is hook up the wiring harness (rewire a couple clips to it), hook up the driveshaft, install the battery and tray, the PS pump (assuming I can find the brackets somewhere), and the bottom half of the header and connect it to the exhaust. Add fluids, drain the gas tank and refill, and she should fire up. The engine was a royal pain to get in myself, especially since the rear Tranny mount was bent, and I had to use muscle to bend it back so the bolt would thread properly. The valve cover will be refinished once she's running and the rest of it is going to get cleaned up. AC will not be going back in, as plans are once I know she's running right - its getting boosted. I only took one pic today, as I was hard at getting everything together.

  • Nice progress. I like the wood wheel
  • Need an O2 bung welded in the bottom half of the manifold today, then its ready to put on. I've gotta extend the wire for the O2, hook that up. Install the battery and intake stuff, and put fluids in it. I basically rebuilt the harness yesterday, because of all the brittle wires and they kept breaking when I was trying to install it. I wasnt a happy camper, but she's almost ready for ignition.

Thanks for the compliment on the wheels. Its some no-namer, but for the price I couldn't go wrong! $25 shipped off ebay. WooWoo! I just need to find a matching shift knob now! Also, I need to go get a factory rack off one of the 600 Subarus at the junkyard so I can get the roof basket on it!
  • And the car is running again! She's still in need of a windshield and trans fluid in it then its ready to tear up the mean streets of Billings. I'm pretty damn pumped up about it. I'm going to clean up the bay some tomorrow, and see when the windshield guy can get over to do an install on it. Its throwing a MAP sensor code, but I should be able to figure that out fairly quickly (most likely one of the 4 vacuum leaks, because I need to get some more vacuum line!). I'm maybe over excited to drive a stock 4wd Civic, but I don't care!
  • I'm going to be picking up another RT4WD in brown with a bad auto tranny this coming weekend. The engine has already been replaced with a D15, but the parts I don't want off of it I will be parting out (most of the car, minus driveshafts, rearend, etc...).

I'm going to get more vacuum line in a few, and then work on the car some more. I've been helping my parents move the past 2 days, so the car has had to wait.
  • and this would be the new owner of this wagon :)
  • What did you end up doing with the D16A6 block? I could use it if you want to sell it or something.
  • never had a block from the wagon, still is the factory motor, proOnthasnow just did a gasket refresh..
