Fuel capacity of a 90 Wagon - Anyone??

Anyone know the fuel capacity of a 90 2WD 5spd wagon gas tank?

I'll take it in US gallons or litres... makes no difference.

The reason I'm asking is that I'm trying to estimate the fuel costs of an upcoming road trip.

Thx to all who contribute.

Cheers !!

I had "12" in my head so that's probably right.

Thx guys, I'll go with 12 gallons (about 45 litres).

My road trip is about 1700 miles (about 2700 kms). I'll be starting in Manitoba, going through ND, SD, MN, WI and then back up to Canada, albeit in Ontario, returning to Manitoba using the TransCanada highway.

Thx to www.gasbuddy.com, I can see that gas is hovering just under the $3 a gallon mark. Therefore, if I stop for gas every 400 kms, then I would need to stop about 7 times (2700 divided by 400 = 7). If gas stays at 3$ a gallon, that means I will be spending about $300 in gas.

    Cheers !!

  • i paid $2.99 the other day in CA.
and i consider that a GIFT!

I wonder what is going to happen with Exxon now that they've posted 100 billion in income in the last quarter??

I'm not against Free Enterprise but this is starting to look like price-gouging...

It's not as if we have a viable alternative either. Our society is built on the use of the car and the oil companies know this.

    Yep, they are 45 litres.

Ethanol is going to be introduced here soon... 129 octane sounds good to me.
  • duckie8310duckie8310 Senior Wagonist
they introduced ethanol into our fuel a couple months ago.."up to 10% volume"...anyone else?

They've been selling ethanol flavored gasoline in Texas for years. Like 5 and 10% ethanol, especially in big smog riddled towns(ie Houston)
Its just with gas prices being what they are, potential solutions are getting a lot more attention. Now, they just started selling E85(85% ethanol).
  • HaydzHaydz Moderator
Yeah i think they are going to start out with E10 and E35 here and then possibly offer E85 a little bit further down the line. A full ethanol conversion is something i'm seriously considering.

I like the idea of the conversion...but I don't have to be the first on the block. I'll let the technology/marketplace make a little progress before I make the leap.

What I like about the ethanol "upgrade" is that it doesn't affect the car ability to use regular gas. You just get a second option. This is part of the reason I'm attracted to the idea of diesel(the new Euro Civic specifically). Diesel, biodiesel, vegetable oil...choose one.

    of course there price gouging
Isnt it funny how when theres a energy crisis. The energy companys
oil/electricity allway post record profits .
we been hovering around 2.75 2 90 a gal here and they pump it for you
state law cant pump your own gas in oregon
and I forget to pump mine in other states so I sit in my car for about 4 min and then It dawns on me that I have to get out and put my own gas in
we have ethanol not sure about the mix but they have been doing it for years here
would love to see a hydro/conversion happen

The Honda diesel may be here(usdm) within the next 2years.

As far as Ethanol it's about a 10% mix. When you go beyond this it starts to eat up anything rubber.Brazil Ford found this out the $$$$$$ way.
  • HaydzHaydz Moderator
The rubber parts only start degrading when you use more than 20%ish which is why you acquire new fuel lines, fuel pump and theres one or two more things that i can't think of at the moment.

As for biodeisel... theres a guy here who drives around to fish and chip shops and buys their used vat contents... runs his car on that.

Theres also a guy here who claims he has figured out how to run his car on water... the patent is currently in process and he won't release the details until its complete..

whoops, well i've only been driving for two years...damn teenagers :P
  • I converted mine to full battery power. No more foreign/expensive/smelly/explosive liquid for me!

    !

You should post some pics under "member's Ride".I think you're our first electric Wagon.COOL! :D There was another dude, but we never heard from him in a while.I'd like to discuss more with u about electric wagons.

Kinda like me... I wasn't familiar with the concept of paying first for a set amount of gas and kept wondering why the fuel pump wasn't starting after I lifted the arm...

Spent a few minutes pushing the arm up and down... until the guy inside starting waving his arms, asking me to come inside...

is it true ethenol is bad for performance? ive never heard good things about it so i stay away from it if i can. im fortunate that in my half of washington state we dont have to do emissions and they dont add ethenol our fuel. i always thought ethenol was used for emissions purposes.

as for a water powerd car theres a guy around here that has a gas/water car that gets 25mpg....... i know that doesnt sound like much but he has NO SHIT 1800HP drives it around town HUGE BB chevy with a massive blower on it. ive known the guy since about jr high me and his daughter were in the same grade so i always saw the car when her dad would bring it for a kind of show and tell. he figures on a smaller honda motor it would make about 800-1000HP and 200mpg's. i wish u guys could sit down with this guy ive sat for hours with him talking about how it all works its amazing the amount of shit he knows.

    ethenol:
    Good:Burns cleaner. :?
BAD  : Gets worst gas mileage.Gas company SCAM  .Gets about 10% less mileage so you need to get 10% mo gas, which means the gas companies get 10% mo of your $$$$$$$$$$$$$.
LOWER Performance. It is used for emissions that's why they add it during the winter. It's NOT the cold winter that reduces the gas mileage, but the ethenol.Ethenol can give more performance, but you need to run larger injectors.Mileage drops again. On the surface it may look cheaper, but you need more. You drive by a gas station & say WOW ethenol is 10-20% cheaper. It's cause you need to run 10-20% more ethenol.
As far as running more than a 10% mix of ethenol is it starts to eat all the rubber hoses. That's what they didn't tell u what happen in Brazil with all the cars. That's why u don't want to run ethenol in your car. It's another SCAm by car companies & repair shops to make you buy new cars or replace ALL(not some) rubber hoses.Another SCAM  the farmers can"t make enough corn to meet the demand.

As far as the gas/water BB Chevy.I don't have enough data, but my guess is it's a water injected blower(or turbo) engine on race gas.Race gas does get better mileage, but cost 2-3x's more.Water injection helps with detention so you can run more boost. If he runs a tall ass overdrive ,stays out of boost,in a gutted Chevy doing 50mph he might get 25 mpg.Not to dis ur friend's dad,but if it had 1800HP the guy would be racing for NAtional Titles or winning NASCAR with the time he'd save w/o 50% of the pit stops.I've been testing a water injection system in my Wgn.Gas mileage hasn't gone up.It's a extra hassle to fill all the time, which is why Chevy Corvairs kept blowing up 'cuz owner's kept forget to fill the water injection bottle. One GOOD thing is the emissions are lower.Did a b4 & after emissions test.

its cool i understand your point its kinda hard for people to take in. I almost dont like telling people cuz i feel like im making the shit up. he is using a blower with PUMP gas. to give u a quick rundown on how he makes it work with out blowing up imagine that the water being introduced into the motor cools the air intake charge lessening the chance of detonation (im sure u know that) the water also slows the burn time in the cylinder. in a conventional gas motor when the air fuel mixture ignites the actual burst of energy only last maybe 10% of the pistons downwards stroke and its a violent BANG! when he adds the water it slows the burn down enough to where the burst of enrgey is more gentle but lasts more like 90% and its way way easier on a motor he figures the motor will last a million miles and another cool part is every time he ever pulles it apart the motor is almost spotless the water keeps everything emaculate. like i said before i wish u guys could come check out this car its unreal
