I WANT! Please post a how-to. I've been eyeballing factory cruise from LX/EX sedans.

it's so easy except for three wires that I'm having problems with.
I'm looking for a wiring book but no luck today.
if anyone could tell me what the blue wire with two silver dots goes to in the engine compartment that would help :?:

I've got a 90 ex parts car with cruise control on it, if you don't end up finding any diagrams or anything I could try and track down all the wiring for cruise on that car and see what's what.

please do this i just picked up an EX just to rob all the options from it including this one.
  • I have this same setup on my turbo wagon. I have let to run the wires though. But i seperated everything from the harness and I think mine just plugged into the fusebox or something.

were the wires already at the steering wheel for the controls or did u have to run those?

Yeah when you get this done a quick write up would be AWESOME!

You should be able to find a ef shop manual on your favorite torrent site.

Pretty sure red pepper had one on their site, you dont even have to log in.

I got the wiring figured out I'll have the write up done this weekend.
small list of what you need.
    1. steering wheel
    2. the adapter plate that goes under the steering wheel that hooks up the horn and switch
    3. the CC computer and bracket
    4. all wiring uncut ( just makes it easy )
    5. the unit under the hood servo
    6. the pedal assembly
Note: the motor mount on the driver’s side only has one bolt hole not the three the servo needs I'm still working on this problem.

Pedal assembly: just the accelerator pedal, maybe? I've wondered about this, since the clutch pivot is different on our cars. Alternatively, wagondriver mentioned a throttle body from some other Honda with a place for the servo cable.

    cruise computer: where is it?

I took the complete pedal assembly and cut it apart andre welded it to the wagon assemble
the computer is to the right of the gas pedal attached to the Hvac. its a small silver box

D16A6 out of a 90 EX sedan has the throttle body that's made to work with the cruise control.

hmm, I need one for a Bseries, oversized. Maybe going to the pedal will be easier.

Here's the schematic for a 90 EX with Cruise

There's gotta be B-series cars with cruise control! It's really just the fact that the throttle body has an extra pulley on it for the cruise control cable to hook up to, right? Then a cable runs from there into the little cruise control "control box" or whatever you want to call the servo actuator whatever. I'd try and find that control box from a 90 ex sedan and then see if you can find maybe a crv throttle body with the extra pulley?

I don't know all the details but I am researching some of the details of how an aftermarket system works. Maybe the wire is there in case you have an automatic transmission to prevent over-revving.

The coil I believe.I think Honda uses the silver dots so you don't mix it up with other blue wires. On the schematic I got there's only one blue wire.Others are combo colours.
  • I needed to install cruise control on my CRX (3000 miles/month). After looking into adapting a stock cruise control from a civic sedan, I opted for an after-market kit from SCS Frigette (no affiliation, etc.).

It was a MUCH simpler install than trying to use a stock Honda setup, no pedal assembly modifications, simple wiring connections, simple mechanical connection at the throttle, easy installation of the control stalk on the steering column cover. The whole thing cost about $270 and took about 4 hours to install. The only catch was that I couldn't mount the clutch sensor switch (disengages cruise when you step on the clutch), which hasn't proven to be a problem. It works perfectly, just like factory.

I have since purchased my 88RT, which also has an aftermarket CC installed. Not the same brand, but quite similar in design. It has a bug when you first set the speed, but once you have it where you want it, it works well. I don't know how old it is, so age may be a factor.

I would recommend an after-market unit, the installation is just so much easier.

I know this is an old thread but before i make a post asking has anyone on here done a wiring diagram and/or a how to on this? I spent the last couple days de-looming the cruise control from my 91 lx harness and without some info i know i will never get it back into my car and working. any info or direction to info would be super great.
  • Hope someone figures this out so you guys can write a sweet write-up so we can make this thing work in our wagons! Super excited!

yeah me too..... my original plan was to swap the harness (90 LX 4dr auto) into my 88 5spd RT then do a lil wiring for the 5sp and MPFI but i just couldnt let myself do it and the thought of just having the wires for autobelts in my non autobelt car just botherd me..... so i have the cruise control and wiring removed along with all the power windows, locks, and mirrors...... If i cant get a good diagram my next plan is to hunt down a wrecked 89 LX 5 spd 4dr w/cruise (if they even came with cruise) and swap that entire harness into my car which should take me about 5 years..... I just want basically a home made EX wagon minus the sunroof and i will be happy.
  • I have all the wiring out of my wagon right now, I'm going to de-loom everything and add power window/door lock wiring, as well as swap to obd1 computer and engine harness wiring. I'm thinking I should go ahead and run the cruise control wiring while I'm at it. I have a lot of wiring diagrams, I just need to take time to take a look at this, I'll post up any info I find.

Earlier in the thread it was said that everything plugs into the fuse box, What kind of unknown wires were you left with when you got the CC wires seperated?
  • turbo_tegturbo_teg Council Member
wow even with that i cant make heads or tales of it..... its frustrating i have %100 of the parts and i know it can be done but i just dont know if i can pull it off and have it work and look clean....
  • i know this over a year old but i think it might help everyone wanting to do this

  • just let the link load for a sec.. it will come up

my only question is can you use the cruise control from a 94 civic coupe in a rt4wd 6spd wagon? my buddy has a good donor car.. and i can strip he said if i can get it to work
  • I assume you will have to use some parts off the 88-91. I know the 94 had an airbag, and the cruise wiring on the steering wheel runs through the SRS reel. I haven't seen 88-91 cruise setups, but I know they don't have airbags, so the routing of the wiring near the steering wheel / steering column will be different. It could prob be done, but it would be some frankenstein shit. It definitely wouldn't plug and play.
  • I actually have the wagon that this thread was started for and hondawagonists ran into a problem because all of the cruise control items are from an OBD0 civic and the car is OBD1 now. This summer we're going to try a different speed sensor but he could never get it to work. Any ideas on that would be appreciated.

    oh and ekswap-
and i believe he took the steering wheel out of an ex with the cruise buttons on it.
**Not sure about the wiring similarities between the two different cruise set up's
  • well i can get the steering wheel with the cruise control buttons from a cb7 (non srs wheel) i pulled it at the yard to verify that it would fit... and it does... same spline size and count not to much surprise and it looks the same as my rt4wd steering wheel with the exception that the "H" emblem cover is bigger on the accord steering wheel... hoping i can just swap covers from my wheel to that one so i can keep my realtime emblem cover...

im not an expert on wiring... i know that honda went and changed from obd2a to obd2b in 98... but when did they go from obd0 to obd1? so i know what years would be best to yank the CC from?
