CAP SWITCHED FOR NEW ONE AND PROBLEM SOLVED. THANKS FOR LOOKING
So here are the symptoms:
- engine cranks but doesn't turn over
- while cranking, it makes a funny sound in between "rrrrrrrrr's", kind of like a "ryunk" sound then back to "rrrr's".. hard to explain
- no problems with fuel pump, relay etc.
My dad thought it was because I had no oil after looking at the dipstick (I'm burning oil like crazy!). Tells me to add a whole 5 qt jug. Engine now starts but as I leave work later that evening, my car is spewing out smoke like I've got one of those JamesBond smoke screen contraptions in the ack. Oil is coming out of the dipstick tube so I drain at least 3 qts and then it doesn't smoke anymore, just stalls cuz oil got up in everything, sparkplugs all wet. It wasn't a fun ride home with the engine stalling every time I slow down for a turn or have to stop.
I recently installed a new blower motor around the same time the engine starting trouble began but I don't think there is any relation, just coincidence. After searching this site, I've come to conclude it is my dizzy cap and possibly rotor too. Took off the old one tocheck it out and foubd some white residue all inside. Bought new ones from Autozone along with an STP air filter. Hopefully the new parts will help.
Anything else I should check as well?
