What's the most common problem when they don't work? Is there a separate fluid tank for the rear?

I'd like to get mine working if possible.

Usually clogged sprayer.Try clearing w/ a stiff wire.There's a thread on this somewhere here.

And yes, there is a separate reservoir with its own pump. Remove the front bumper to find them below the left headlight.
