Cruise control

Has anyone installed an aftermarket cruise control on a wagon?

I'm going on a road trip in August and plan on giving my right foot a rest while I drive...

Cheers !!

Audiovox makes a decent universal cruise control package. Not to expense and works reasonably well.

Why not a Civic LX or Integra CC? I started a bastard project with an aftermarket steering wheel and LX/teg parts. Thanks to Pacifier I'll have a EF 8/9 leather wheel with controls, but will still use the LX engine parts. I mean CC is basically a fuel regulator right?

  I hate 2 be the bearer of BAD news. The only way the cruise will work on the Wagon(&all Civics) is if you use a ECU with cruise(it's built into the ECU).The only other way maybe if you use a aftermarket cruise & combine it with the other Civic controls.

"Not compatible with Hondas or with Ford Econoline Vans". Quoted from this ad for an universal Audiovox cc.

My roommate had an Audiovox on his CRX for several years. I asked and he was aware that they weren't recommended but he didn't know why...it worked fine.

I found this...it lists several Hondas. Might be a better, albeit more expensive option, but I can't speak from personal experience:

  • hey, I got several of those Honda cruise controls in my cargo area for traction control.
    talk about multi-functional parts!

    ...jm.
  • this is a pretty late reply, but there are simple cruise control units that measure RPMs instead of actual speed. They tap into the tach wire, and they are totally universal. They aren't the best at keeping the vehicle's speed constant, but it will certainly give your foot a rest.

Newbie here, catching up to this thread --

"The only way the cruise will work on the Wagon(&all Civics) is if you use a ECU with cruise(it's built into the ECU)"

Does this mean that if I *wanted* to put a new ECU in, I could put one in that was new enough to include CC? If so, what else (if anything) would I need to have to make CC work?

    Thanks,

    Jenny
  • I have talked with a local accessories installer and he gave me a price of $325 to install cruise in my wagon. I've been waiting till i had the extra $ to get it done.
I could ask him what brand name he uses and if there are any precautions to observe. Will keep you guys posted.

That's a great price, I think ... it would be great for all the DIYers here to know what he's got in mind.

  • i've removed aftermarket cruise controls from wagons. and lots of other cars. aftermarket cruise units, in my experience, are crap. your mileage may vary.

So ... if aftermarket's not so smart ... what about OEM from another Honda? Like a slightly later Civic or something? Hmm I think I'd better do some thread searching. Bet this question's been answered.

 Evidently I found out that a CC out of a '90-'91 Civic Sdn LX(orEX)(other '88-'91/'96 Civic's w/CC may also work) will work in our Wgn.You'll need all CC related pieces out of the donor car.........& the Gas,Brake & Clutch Pedal assembly(too) to make it work. The guy that did it took a day to extract the CC & 3 more days to install it.

:? I think it's the AT Civic's that has it built-in into the ECU from '88-'89.

I knew it would be possible! Probably low on my list of priorities now ... can't believe it's been almost a year since I got my Bluebell! Not one mod, if you don't count replacing the parts that have broken since I got her. (I don't.) Don't think I'll add cruise control anytime soon, but it's good to know that it's possible!

Its not really that hard to swap over the OE cruise, I know its a EG but this guy did it and im in the process of doing power door swap from a LX on my wagon. Its gonna be Pl, PW, PM, and maybe tweeters. I will post up the website im going off of. there more of less closed systems. they all wire to control boxes then they just need a 12v and a ground.
