My rt4wd does the 4th grind too. I found that double clutching on the up shift and rpm matching on the downshift can keep it from grinding. It'll work until I can afford to have it fixed.
Yes. Upon dis-assembly, you need to inspect the engagement dogs on the driven gear, and decide whether it needs replacing in addition to the brass synchro rings.
In super cold weather my gears can't be bitchy and feel rough going into
gear but no grinds. Just toss some really good fluid in it for
now and when you can, replace necessary parts. I have been thinking about looking into carbon synchros and talking to a guy about CNC'ing some
gears for my spare trans.
