want fan to come on with ignition

how would I wire my aftermarket fan so that it comes on when I turn my key on? Can I just run it to the fuse box to a switched power source and ground on chassis?

Easiest/cleanest way would be to wire it to the factory fan plug and jumper the fan switch plug.
  • I looked all over for the stock plug to no avail, must have been cut out by previous owner, gonna try to find where in the harness it goes in and splice into it.
  • the stock plug is actually not a plug. Its located on the back of the block and has rubber boot over it. Its two seperate wires going into the boot. Just jump those two wires together and bam! your fan comes on with the key.

Thats how mine was for a while. Then I hard wired it into the ignition switch. I had used a butt connector (female part, not the spade), and there are three different connection points on the fuse box you could switch it between. One was constant, one was "Accessory", and one was "On". I ran the ground to the chassis, and then the power went to the toggle switch, and the toggle switch was wired to the fuse box.
  • per4mance, are you refering to the temp sending unit next to th oil sending unit? wont that mess up my temp gauge or does that reading come from the sensor in therm housing. also there is no fan switch plug, aarrggghhh, im proly just confusing everyone. thanks for all the input, I wil get it figured out thanks again everyone

The one next to the oil sender only controls the fan. The gauge reads from the end of the cylinder head.

Do you mean that you can't find the plug that the fan motor itself plugs into? You're right, I'm a little confused. That plug should be down low under the battery tray/near where the AC pressure switch is on the harness.

Just run the ground to the car then run the
positive to the power radio. That's what I did
and it works good. Good luck.
