DIY air fuel meter from australia

Hey,
Im looking to put an led air fuel monitor in the unused square dash filler plate to the right and below the steering wheel. I found this company from australia that makes such a thing for a great price.

it looks like this after you solder it all together (no idea why they put their leds backwards in this pic).

(i will most likely use rectangular led's instead of round so i can compress them into the space i need to fit them into)

Link to the compay is:

Link to a place where you can get it at an even better price(small orders) is:

There is no print catalog available to the usa but they are available in NZ and AUS.
Anyone have any experience with this company? Im going to order this and try it out.
Looks like i will be doing several mods from them including the dome light delay, voltage indicator, air/fuel and possibly frequency switch.

Im sure some others of you will find this interesting. I have similar products in my vw's from a company called http://www.duostyling.com and im hoping to replicate the duostyling type gauges for my honda switch plugs.

JAYCAR are a pretty big company, them and DickSmith Electronics are pretty much the two biggest stores in NZ that sell random electrical things and electrical kits (to make your own stuff).

There is one fairly close by. I'll go there tomorrow and get a catalogue.

Awesome i was going to ask you about getting one. I'm going to have to just download the .pdf version.

I realize putting these kits together probably requires some time and a nice soldering iron but they make some excellent stuff for custom DIY electronics.

Ordered 2 of these air/fuel indicators yesterday we will see how it goes.
  • Are you aware that these are not intended for tuning purposes? The only thing these will tell you is if the air/fuel ratio is at 14.7:1, below 14.7:1 (more rich), or above 14.7:1 (more lean). You won't get any resolution at either end of the spectrum. This is because the OEM O2 sensor is designed specifically for this purpose: maintain a 14.7:1 air/fuel ratio for fuel economy and reduced emissions.

    yes i am aware.

Of course I wouldn't try and tune a car with a L.E.D. based 14$ air/fuel indicator just like I wouldn't with an autometer air fuel gauge connected to a factory narrowband o2 sensor. I definately appreciate your heads up about that though its a good warning.

I like some kind of visual refrence telling me what my o2 sensor is doing, it comes from vw's where you have no idea if your sensor has gone bad. theres no check lights.
  • Cool! 8) Just wanted to be sure.
  • I'm using the naw oem from http://www.14point7.com/Widebands/NAW_OEM/NAW_OEM.htm

It works spot on and never had any problem with it.
