My turn to ask questions... about rear wipers

Does anyone here from North America (USA, Canada, Mexico) have a 1988-91 Wagon that came from the factory with NO rear wiper? Mine has one, and every other Wagon I've ever seen also has one. However, I have heard a few people discuss vehicles that have come without them. I need to hear from someone that owns, or has owned a Wagon that has no rear wiper from the factory. Not one that was simply removed, but your wiper stalk on the steering column has no controls for the rear wiper, and the back hatch has either no hole for a wiper arm, or some sort of OEM plug in the hole.

This has to do with the class of racing that I participate in, and my desire to race the car without the rear wiper.

USDM - unsure but hazarding a guess i would say Wagovan trim will not have rear wiper.

JDM - The Civic Pro didn't come with a rear wiper, no controls, no motor, no hole in the boot hatch.

I just went and looked at Stephen's pics ('89 Wagovan) and his had a wiper. The other true wagovan I know of is my buddy Junior's- I'll try to remember to look at it.

Who else on this forum has a real EY?

Pardon my ignorance, but how does having a rear wiper change your classing? I can imagine it has something to do with original equipment having to be fitted, but past that I'm lost. :?:

If the rules don't say you "can", then you can't! The rules do say that I can change this, and that from one model of Civic to the other, as long as it doesn't involve any "alterations" outside of bolt on, bolt off. I guess I could argue that the Wagon is classed on the same line in the rules as the Civic Hatch STD, and that one has no rear wiper, so I could justify my mod that way :D   .

Rear wipers isn't even a concern.Your BIGGER PROB. is the '91 is the worst year to race.Get a '88 that's about 300 pounds lighter.
  • My 91 will be underweight for the class I'll be running in. I'm expecting the car to weigh 2125lbs when all is said and done based on what the car weighed when I started (2155lbs). It has to weigh 2,200. I'll be ballasting about 75lbs. I've done my homework.

Didn't know about the ballasting. As far as I know there's only 1 part number for the rear tailgate in the USDM.
  • this is an old thread but i deleted mine (removed it) and filled the hole in the hatch with a rubber plug from honda for the 92-95 cx model hatchback civic.(they don't have a wiper here in the u.s.) it just pops right in. took about 15 mins from s 2 f.
