Radiator fan wont turn off

last sunday i replaced my thermostat coz my old one is stock open (fail safe). when replaced everything back and check if everythings working, the fan wont turn off. fan will turn on as soon as the temp is warm enough to trigger the fan switch to turn on. once the fan is turned on it wouldnt turn off. i can fell the temp difference from the upper and lower radiator hoses. obd0 fan switch is located on the block on the oil filter side. i dunno if that side of the block will not cool down to let the fan switch to turn off. i was also trying to relocate the fan switch on the thermostat housing just like an obd1 set up. i got a obd1 hose barb or the other half of the thermo house from obd1 but it seems it doesnt fit right.

if you have done this or encountered this issue, please share your wisdom. thank you very much.

Did you bleed out the air ?Does the fan evidently turn off?

yeah i bleed it and everything, but its doesnt turn off once it comes on. the lower hose is so cold but the temp gauge stays at half point. maybe will bleed more on my days off.

    thanks for the reply.

It does sound like you have trapped air.

The bottom pipe staying cool also could mean a failing thermostat.
  • bled and bleed and more bleeding and the fan stays on once it get to its operating temperature. i need to relocate the fan switch to the thermostat housing from the engine block. OBD1 thermo housing cover would'nt match with the OBD0 thermo housing. i find that with these set-up the fan would turn off coz it will make the fan stop working once the temp is cold.

do anyone here have tried this conversion? if so could share some info. thanks

    do you need any help?
let me know if you need a second hand or something.
  • thanks for the offer but ii just need to relocate the fan switch from the block (obd0) to the thermostat housing (obd1). i got the other half (obd1) from the jy and tried to mate it with my thermo housing but it doesnt match. maybe from more later years d16. thats all i need i guess.

    thanks again.

  • i just found the solution to convert from obd0 to obd1 fan switch location. replace the thermostat housing from a obd1 b18b. it will fit but the barb which connect to the lower radiator hose is one size bigger compare to the d16. so there was a persuasion when i connected the lower hose. i then took off the socket that connected to the fan switch in the block and made an extension to connect to the fan switch at the thermo housing. ...................its now an obd1 styled fan switch connection. it works just like i wanted to.
