peddle bracket question.

Hi, this is my first post. Just bought my first Honda today. I got it with the understanding that the clutch was bad. After I got it home I started to tinker with the clutch fork adjustments with no luck. Something just didn't feel right. I looked under the steering column at the bracket that holds the peddles in place and saw that the plate had a few cracks in it and when the clutch peddle was pushed in that whole side flexed and a few welds were broken.

Is there an upgrade I can get for this? Maybe something stronger I can replace the bracket with? Or should I go with a stock replacement?

Thank you in advance, Russ.

this seems to be quite a common problem with these vehicles, what makes it hard, i believe, is that you can only replace it with another Wagon pedal assembly only. sedan and hatchback ones dont fit right (so i hear)
  • A HATCH ONE SHOULD WORK...i hope anyways because thats what i got mine out of......just haven't swapped the 5 speed in yet
  • I have all weekend to mess with this. I have a welder and standard fab tools so I should be able to make something work. It looks easy to fix.

Also I ran out the clutch fork adjustment so the clutch engages all of the way and it does in deed slip. The code on the front of the engine says zc and the guy I got the car from told me it is an integra engine, Is the flywheel and clutch something I can get new from my local auto parts store?
  • IS IT A SINGLE OR DUAL ZC? if its single just get a a6 clutch and flywheel you'd be able to get those from autozone or whatever...idk about a dual though
  • I just figured out how to add pictures.
  • i don't believe you can use a single cam block with a dual cam head...?? you should still be able to use an A6 clutch with the DOHC, at least that's what I was told.
  • Like I said, I'm new to hondas. I guess I could get the parts for the A6 and if it don't fit i'll take it back. Is there any balancing issues i need to worry about with the flywheel?
  • Oh, I guess i need to know the year and model of the car that clutch and flywheel came in. I'm sure if i say i need a A6 flywheel and clutch the auto parts people will have no idea what i'm talking about. Considering I have no idea what I have.

I have a dohc zc sitting in my garage for the swap. there shouldn't be any issues with balancing. from what I was told by a fellow member, who did the ZC swap, use the a6 clutch and flywheel, it bolts right up to the zc.

what year is your wagon? that will basically determine which clutch you will need to get. unless the person who did the swap used a different transmission. I'm fairly new to honda's as well, so I wouldn't take my word fully on this.

Anybody, if I am incorrect please chime in.
  • The one that I have is the 1988 rtawd. So I'm guessing the A6 was the stock engine for this car?

Just got done installing and test driving the car after I welded in the brackets to the peddle assembly and the difference is night and day. With no pressure on the peddle the clutch fork is a bit lose, pressing the peddle to the floor I can now select any gear, including 1st....The other 1st and reverse!
  • The pedal brackets for wagons are specific to wagons. They are common to fail in all types of 88-91 Civic. Replace or fabricate, new is still availabe for 2WD but not 4WD.

I have broken 2 pedal boxes in 2 different spots. The first replacement came from a *CRX* so yes, it does work from other models, however, the pedals sit slightly different from OEM, not great but it works if you are in a pinch. Now i have a wagon one back in. common problem it seems. PITA to change.
