which parts are hard to come by?

My otherwise clean 88 RT4WD needs an engine. I've found an 88 RT 4WD parts car (it has a bad body and bad suspension) and am trying to figure out what other parts to pull. Any ideas about what parts are becoming harder to come by? I can't store the entire car due to space limitations but I do have a shed to keep the pulled parts in. Looooook into the future.....whaaaaat might it need? Thanks wagoners!

all body panels like doors, hood, mirrors, etc...

dashboard, center console, seats. basically, EVERYTHING

engine is universal Civic, RT4WD parts are extremely rare to find
  • yeah everything is hard to find....just use your 4wd oil pan......wagons are nonexistant around here
  • Unfortunately, the lights/lenses, bumpers and trim, and even hood are all Wagon-specific. (You'd think that Honda would reuse more than just the front suspension, but NOOoooo...) I know you said the body was bad, but any piece you can salvage will save you a lot of headache during a later rust or damage repair. The front window gasket is impossible to obtain anywhere at any price. The clips holding the trim on are easy to break, and hard to find. Wagons didn't come with lips or fog lights (at least not in the US); if you find those, salvage them. Roof racks are pretty easy to fit, but stock racks aren't common.

The entire interior is Wagon-specific, as well, but most of it holds up well. The shift knob from the RT4WD version is hard to find. Cargo area covers are rare, and require special interior plastic -- if you can get it, take it all. Rear speaker pods are pretty tough to find. There's a sliding tray under some front passenger seats that people are kinda excited about, although it's not commanding high prices because it's easy to replace with an analogue from the Odyssey. The fold-down pull knobs on the rear seats are known to break, and should be pilfered if possible (again, not worth much because people will just replace them with cabinet knobs).

The rear seats are generally in pretty good shape, but intact front seats are hard to come by. A clean driver's seat with no rips is as rare as an honest politician. Floor mats seem to wear out or get lost pretty easily.

Center consoles for Wagons don't have cupholders. If your parts car has them, it might be worthwhile to transfer that mod. Same for armrests.

I think that's about it. Anything else is just for your own sanity (door cranks, interior door panels, seat belts, buttons and knobs, badges, decals...).
  • Located in Issaquah, WA. I'm interested in a Civic Wagon RT4wd parts car. Maybe we can share the car you found, and both get what we need. What color is it?

The parts car is blue. Not sure on the interior color. My car is that lighter gold color and clean inside and out. So interior parts etc. aren't going to work for me. Mostly just looking to take mechanical pieces. tranny, exhaust, wheels, hatch parts etc. Am going to look at it tomorrow. Will post after i see it. Hopefully it'll work out.
  • To Judebert:
Thanks for all the specific info! Will look for some of the items you mentioned. Great info i had no idea about the window gasket for instance. Perfect. If I get it I'll be posting shippable items to the board.
  • Interested in seeing the pictures, and what will be left after you've taken what you need.
  • Jim- I bought the parts car. She came down to earth and is including transport. Engine is tight with 115K which is really what I need. The interior is blue. Pretty good shape. Front seats are great will clean up nicely and are intact. Dash is super clean. Some body panels are good and some aren't. All door skins are fine, interior door panels are good too. Drivers front fender is good. Hood is a little rough but not awful. Passenger fender also a little rough. Hatch is good. Bumpers rough. she ditched it but undercarriage looks fine aside from the axle/rocker arm tear off that she did to it. I'll be taking the engine, oil pan, tranny, exhaust, A/C (I hope), hatch hinges, latch, lock and arms. I'll also take a few other little things here and there... a couple of dash clips, cover for the back hatch area. Am going to have my mechanic advise on what else to pull. Anything that's blue will be left. What do you need? I have a few other pics if you need... lemme know.
  • what is the color code that's in the driver's door jam? I might be interested in the drivers door if it's not rusted or severely dented. if you don't need that door pm me a price. and the bumper turn signals lenses too if they aren't cracked or broken.

edit: are the 88 wagon doors the same as the 90? anybody...
  • I Pm'd you - Dora Lee. Please contact me to review the parts I need. Thank you.
