How do I turn turn off 'tailgate open' light?

So I've had my tailgate off for a few days and I'm wondering if it's drained my battery. Every time I turn on the car that light is flashing, but other then that it seems fine. Went to start it today and battery is dead. Thinking that may be it. Is there a way to turn off that light safely?

    umm...shut the damn tailgate?? :lol:

    srsly, the tailgate light in the cluster only comes on w/ the key. The rear dome light, however, can be on all the time. I'd check that. Your hinges are on the way!

    haha, that's what I figured about the tailgate as I didn't notice anything when the key's not in. I've got the headliner and dome lights out so I don't think that's it. I dunno, when it happened it was raining outside and I was in the middle of working on building a bed frame in the garage and said eff it. I'll look more into it today...
