How to take off roof rack?help.

My roof rack is in bad conditions and paint is coming off. So I was trying to take it off for paint but the screws that look like hold it on dont screw out. I dont know if the guy i bought it from did some sloppy thing to it but if you guys have any info please help me.

    youve got to remove the crossbars first, then you can take the screws out that hold the rails in

    you talking about taking the rails off the roof? you may have to drill the screws that hold them down, if they are rusted solid.

    guess im lucky... mine came right out.

    im planninig on leaving the holes there so after i paint i can put some nice looking set screws in that could be removed if i ever wanted to put a new roof rack on

    I found a Waggie with rack rails at the wrecker and had to drill out the screws. The racks are held by T-bolts and you will need to use some locking pliers to hold the stud that the screw threads into. You will also need to remove the headliner to gain access.
    Oh, and start with a narrow bit and slowly increase the diameter. The screw heads have a wide lip. I went as wide as I could and ended up boring out the hole in the rack so now I have to use spacers to keep the rack from wiggling loose.
