going to have to disagree with you mayne..
the hatchback's here continued with that glovebox into the 90-91 model year, while the sedan and wagon got the other one.
the newer ones feel MUCH more studier. to me it just looks smoother and not as cheap/plasticy.
The new lower dash piece (drivers side) is a KNEE BOLSTER. It was a USDM safety modification. The four doors and wagons got those and the motorized belts and the door beams as improved safety items to meet safety requirements. The entire dash and under framing are different on 90-91's. I tried to add the coin pocket in my 1991 and I can't. The dash mount point for the lower trim does not exist on mine and the area where the pocket goes is blocked with a metal plate. I did however add the little pocket, or Choke Cover, as Honda calls it. The 90-91 have just a plain block off plate where the 88-89 have a tiny pocket just left of the steering column. The plate pops out and the pocket pops right in. Did this on both my 1991's. It fits a Bluetooth earpiece quite nicely.

all 90-91s are like that...
Must be a USDM only thing.
indeed. about the only thing that's nicer then a JDM/EDM wagon
Here's a pic of the Civic Pro from a similar angle to compare. This is an '88 EY2.
And it's not anywhere the same angle but this is the Shuttle right after i picked it up. It is a '90 EF5.

The bulbousness just looks wrong in the interior.
