Lowering question #53262

Ok, I've glanced over every page in the Suspension forum here, I looked over most every post that seemed to relate to lowering an 89 two wheel drive.

I think one thing that confuses the matter is the use of all OEM/stock replacement parts to lower them vs using lowering springs and OEM/stock replacement shocks and struts. For example, it's my understanding that I can use all OEM/stock parts if I:
Front:
[*]89 Civic hatch/CRX/sedan struts[/*:m:3ugdujdd]
[*]89-91 Civic hatch/CRX/sedan springs

Rear:[/*:m:3ugdujdd]
[*]89-91 Civic hatch/CRX/sedan shocks[/*:m:3ugdujdd]
[*]89-91 Civic hatch/CRX/sedan springs[/*:m:3ugdujdd]

I could have sworn that was how I read it, way back on one of the oldest pages in this forum, but it seems too simple. This would also avoid any work with the LCA if I'm reading it right.

I'm not looking for a drastic drop. 2" would probably be super, and I need a pretty comfy ride in the end, all that for a cheap price. Tough, I know. Does this all sound correct?

This is a good link to read on lowering:

:o Now back to your case. This on lowering your 2WD about 2".Let's start with the rear. You stated:

Front's can only be done with lowering springs. You may have read too fast & missed the word ,"lowering".

Well dang, I think I read that one at one time, but forgot about it. So many other ones, you know.

Yeah, my reading was probably a little too faster and too furiouser....

So, you're saying (and I've still got to read the link, so you're free to ignore my redundant questions, lol) that regardless, on the front, I'll need some form of 89-91 civic 2" lowering springs and the stock 89 hatch/crx/sedan struts.

On the rear I'll need strictly wagon shocks, used with stock 89-91 Civic hatch/CRX/sedan springs?

Thanks for the help, I know it's probably real obvious to most, but I'm still new to this animal

Anyone have a rough estimate how long it's going to take to wear out the shocks and or struts when running shorter springs than expected?

less then 3 months. at least when i was running Eibach's on stock shocks on my hatchback.

Damnit man. Talk about the bearer of bad news! lol

Well, that pretty much screws my pooch. I may have to ride at.... at.... stock ride height until I can afford to do the real deal. FAWK!

stock height isnt that bad. its more fun actually

my 2 cents = wait till you can do it RIGHT. you will enjoy it much better that way. (go with TEIN basic dampers. they are awesome)

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Damn your voice of reason. :(

screw that. buy some cheap ebay coilovers and rockem till your shocks blow. youll have a blast for only $29.99 plus shipping and you can save up for the good stuff in the meanwhile.....

EDIT: just dont expect ride quality or any nice feature like that!!!

Agreed. My gf's CRX came with crappy ebay coilovers. I switched it back to stock springs - it rides much better now, and I'll bet it handles better too now that it isn't bouncing all over the place.

Well, the PO used ebay coilovers and that's why the shocks are blown now. I've got a guy local that's got a stock setup for a good price, so I'm going that route till I can do it justice.
