No, that's the real deal R12. It worked fine last summer and I turned it on a couple times over the winter. When it started warming up the AC stopped cooling.
I got a couple cans off my buddy at work. His father passed away and when he cleaned out his garage there was some very old cans of it. Matter of fact they had a price sticker of $7 on them so they were pretty old.
 You need find that leak first like Eagle Beagle suggested. If the Freons been gone for more than 5 days you MUST replace the Drier.
Your friend's FATHER gave you a BIG gift. That can of Freon R!2 is GOLD.Go ask a AC guy what it cost.DON'T WASTE IT ON A LEAKY AC!!!!!!! :x
  DOn't change to R134.It's NOT as cold and to do it right you need to replace all the o-rings &seals.Cars using R134 have larger condensers.
oompff...thats tuff...
that is...
you need r12 , a "tracer-fluid" and an uv lamp/blacklight...
and a thick blanket to cover the motor compartment...
if you use uv...you have to use a special goggle...
but i understand you replaced the lines..
orrr...
you could try that "ye'ol soap/water/bubble solution"...
usually the lines between compressor-condensor...
if the car was not involved in an accident/crash...
if so...check again if not...
i understood you replaced (?) lines.. then i opt to check/replace all old/used rubber rings
before wasting...
use proper/size/length tools...don't force...
good luck...
and yeah...gold and a head-ache...that cold gold...
$29 a can is a decent deal, I've seen singles sell for almost forty.
Honestly I'm going to have to convert, I don't have enough to recharge it after opening the system. Unless of course anybody here is going to mexico anytime soon.... A buddy of mine is going to take what's left off my hands for his old school chrysler.
A friend from work went to mexico on vacation last week and she tried to bring me back two cans of the R12.... Got pinched at customs. Quite a shame, two cans were under ten bucks and they gave her a hell of time about it too.
Comments
EDIT: Dont they sell that at wally world?
or did i miss out a thing or 2 ?
