Thats about $1000nz, landed it would be about $3500 and you still wouldnt be able to register it.

I remember about 7years ago when my parents were importing cars there would be about 2 beagles a week at the auction we used in japan, they were about $4000 landed and on the road back then

Shipping was $1400 door to door about 2years ago when I did my integra, then GST and compliance. Unfortunately imported cars have to be newer than 2001 now (I think, might be newer, its based on emissions) to be road registered

Please PLEASE stop using the term "Jap" to describe Japanese things.

If the car is older than 25 it can be shipped to the US with no problems, 30 if it is going to CALI. My buddy bought my 78 opel Kadett and had no problems getting into the US system over there. Give the Beagle a few more years

One thing you may find (im not 100% sure) is that due to emissions laws in Japan a lot of early and mid 90's cars were exported as it became to expensive to own the car, so it was sold and upgraded.

if you live in the US you can buy a RHD Japanese one from Canada, cross the border yourself and register it.

It can't be that easy, can it? Anyone have some more info on this???

its not. i researched a bit, and to import a car from Canada you have to prove it is up to USDM standards.. which for the 90-91 model year includes auto-belts :x amoung other things. google it, there's some good info out there on it. make sure its from government websites.
