Adjusting shiftlinkage

So how in the hell do you adjust the cable shifter in a RT4WD? Im hearing that since its cable you can adjust it and try and get rid of some of the play. Do you adjust at the shifter or the tranny? Im new to the whole cable shifter instead of the good old shift rod  any help would be great.

Also could a cable shifter from another car be retrofitted or do they work diff? I know our shifter is closer to the 3rd gen prelude I think it is. Just wondering if I could get a H,F, or K series shifter if mine ever goes bad or I want to try and make a short shifter. Or hell swap a H series in cause they make short shifters for those.

You can adjust tranny side and also a little on the block inside the car. Have a play and you will figure it out.

There are turnbuckles in the cables at the shift lever assembly specifically for adjustment of length. They are not intended to remove slop. They are for ensuring that the lever is in the correct position relative to the position of the gear selection assembly in the transmission. If there is play in the shifter, it's the bushings in the shifter assembly, or on the cable ends at the transmission. There are no provisions for adjustment at the transmission on the North American market cars.

Hmmm mine always slotted in where i had left them pretty much (the turnbuckles tranny side). Are you saying the USDM version doesn't have the little bracket sitting on top of the tranny with the what i assume you mean are turnbuckles (the bolt shaft with adjustable nuts on each side)?

So anyone? could I swap a 3rd gen prelude, 4th gen prelude, or k-series shifter in? Im getting real tired of the slop in my shifter and im not going to dump $5 a piece for plastic washers that there are 20+ of! I have sourced shifters and there are a few ludes of all years at the local yard.
