First "real" shots with the strobist gear.

Don't really see this as a "photog-heavy" forum, but why not... ;)

So last night Tim, Bird, Cuz and myself went out for an impromptu "shoot" since I finally got my first true strobist setup completed last week. It's: Cybersyncs triggering my 430EX through an Eclipse 45" shoot-though sitting on a Flash Zebra swivel bracket attached to a Photo Basics 7.5' stand. Cheap setup, I know, but that's kinda the point. Learning on a budget, son!

Learned that I have a lot to learn. While off-shoe flashes open a whole new door, they also require a whole new thought process. Illuminating the subject is fairly easy, getting the ambient-lit background to appear like I wanted just wasn't working. Might try to piece together an identical setup sooner than I originally thought I would so that I can hopefully gain a little more control of my shots, but we'll see... On to the pics! (please excuse the saturation in some of them, apparently the screen I use to edit is more dull than I thought it was. :o)

Couldn't roll until Bird finished a "couple" of wings real quick.

There were much nicer cars than the wagon present, I also neglected my old hatch (The "wing man" now owns it). Honestly, I spent too much time trying to get me bearings with the new setup shooting the white ITR that after I grabbed those couple of pics we all just rolled home.

it seems with photography, any new equipment can mean a new philosophy. pics look good though. once you get your bearing and get comfortable with the setup I think you will have a lot of fun with it....
  • I especially like the TypeR pictures. The soft spotlight around the car is very dramatic, and the interior shots are nice and soft.
