Windshield moulding

I went over a curb and cracked my front windshield even worse. I was scheduled to get it replaced, but when the guy came out and saw that the car was electric, he didn't want to cut the old molding because when he put it back it would be ugly. Apparently it leaked a long time ago; they shot it full of urethane. The lip has a flaky striation; I'm afraid it's rusted clean through. I hope I don't have to bondo my roof! I'm not sure my skills are up to that task.

He said they looked for one in-state and couldn't find it; he's expanding his search to out-of-state, and we'll reschedule when he finds it.

Meanwhile, I'm looking around on my own. Majestic has the lowest price I've found, $56.89. Honda part number is 73150-SH5-305.

Anybody know if one of these can be obtained even cheaper? I'm assuming junkyard versions wouldn't work well.

i would stick with new parts when i comes to sealing the windshield. let him keep searching, or go with Majestic.

at least the guy is nice about it and wants to do a good job :D

The last window I replaced totally wrecked my mouldings with the uninstall. The window guy said he had a really good universal moulding that he could use till I located the correct parts. Once he installed it, I never bothered looking. I like the universal stuff better. Its one piece with zero seams and smooth as hell. If you want pix, I can snap a few when I get home.

He mentioned that if this had been a regular Civic, he would've just cut it out and forgotten about it. I guess there are hidden benefits to putting a lot of effort into your car.

That would be much appreciated. Is there still a rain channel, or does the water pool up around the molding?

When I had pebbles' windshield done, I added new molding for $40, want me to see if that guy can get more?

If you don't mind me asking, what are you paying to have this done? Mine was $260 (would have been $220 without new trim). I thought that was a little steep.

my friend got a new windshield installed on his EF hatchback for $180 with new moldings.
maybe its more expensive for the wagon seeing as the glass is probably harder to come by...?

I went home for lunch, but the damn camera was dead. Ill post some pix when I get home.

My windshield guy keeps trying to tell me that the wagon windows are the same as the hatch & sedan. I cant wait till he orders me one and it doenst fit. Then Ill get an even better deal on a new window for the crx ;)

Yeah, he showed me the windshields in the back of his truck. They were beautiful, pristine... except for the Wagon's. It was covered in dust. He told that's because it's been so long since anybody wanted one.

My insurance company is paying for it, so it costs me $0. I guess there are some advantages to living in Florida.

If he can get it for $40, I'll definitely buy it from you.

Shenrie, thanks for the pics! I must admit that looks pretty good. The lack of a rain channel bothers me a bit; I'm afraid water will pool under the molding and rust the roof even worse. If Bam can actually get a gasket, I think I'll go that route.

Its basically a specialized t-moulding, so one side of it is open for drainage, but I understand your concerns.

Bump - the one on my car was in less than stellar shape when I got it, and now it's starting to pull away on the driver's side A-pillar. Is this the sort of thing I can replace myself? Or should I get a glass shop to do it? My windshield is perfectly OK - just need the moulding.
