hardwiring q's

i was wondering how everyone hardwired a inverter. I had one and it had the battery clamps you could put on it but it didnt seem safe for a perm install. I was thinking of buying amp wire and a inline fuse and doing it like a amp install. ( I want one in the back and the front) so any help would be great. hell even pics if you have them.

sounds like you already know how to do it :) wire it up, fuse it, and remember the longer the 12v cable the bigger the gage it will need to be, also the watt/amps the inverter will have will impact the gage as well.

test the gage by knowing how long of wire you will need for the rear, then find some wire you may have laying around,
run the wire outside the car so you can see how hot it gets. if the wires get hot, double the wires, (i like to use good size speaker wire, most people always have some or alot around) now keep adding wires until they stay cool.
now say you have ten 12 gage wires all twisted up, now check how much copper wire that is and gage accordingly.
make or buy a nice 12v juction block and add the proper terminals.

speaker wire is cheap and like i said most people have some kind of wire laying around. big gage amp wire is not cheap and if its to small and gets hot you just wasted $ and have to buy bigger.

hope this help your project 8)

I was thinking of doing a 4 gauge wire to the back to a distribution block for when I add a amp later. Should i run a ground wire to the front or wire it to the chassis like a amp? Im assuming to the chassis but I have to ask. Shorter ground wire the better right?
  • yes i wanna put a big amp inverter but im still waiting for a good deal or somewhat from the junk yard specials. anyways yes you need to have a big wire such as gauge 4 or bigger/better. fused it for protection. maybe a high amp relay for switching and a pilot lamp for monitor.

    just my two cents....

I planned on getting one from a store and just hardwiring it in. so it should have the light and what not
