LEDs in my cluster

I thought my bulbs were a little to dim so i decided to brighten things up a bit.

Here is my cluster with just the white leds in. Notice the yellow lights behind the gauges

I figured why not take it a step further and paint the needles and bulbs behind the gauges.

I also installed a 3 spoke I got from the junk yard for 10 bucks.

Be careful doing this mod, I don't know how I screwed up my cluster but now my tach, temp and gas gauge no longer works. I got a pretty good idea on how i messed it up. Now I'm out a cluster. I think it's too bright now and not really liking this mod. On the next cluster I get I got a pretty good idea on my next mod. I'll post up pics when I'm done. I'll use this cluster as my test subject for mods to my next cluster. Maybe even get a GSR cluster or 99-2000 civic si cluster. Eh who knows.

  • Good and bright!!! Good luck on the other clusters
  • checked, clean, connectorclips?

Yeah, all the connections are good. What I ended up doing is the power strips that supply the gauges and tach have screws within the "map" so I figured that they would supply power to my leds instead of running them off one light. Well I hooked them all up and plugged it in and nothing worked , not even the lights. So i decided maybe that wasn't the best way to go about it and hooked it up the way I know it works, so I did that and everything else is effed up. At least know I know what not to do. Already sourced one at the junk yard for 20 bucks but the mileage is way high. I got some cool ideas for this one cause the lights are a little different.

It's easy enough to reset odometers. In the past I've just hooked them up to a drill and spun the mechanism until the mileage was right.

PLEASE NOTE: I was ONLY doing this so that the REPLACEMENT odo/cluster mileage would MATCH my ORIGINAL mileage, NOT for ANY other nefarious, illegal purpose. :D
  • yeah yeah, nice try, No go ...

Here in oregon if your car is 5 or 10 years old it doesnt matter what the ODO says. if its 10 years old or newer then you can goto jail for screwing with ODO :D
  • Well i fixed my cluster and went back to white needles. Left the LEDs in and put a blue diffuser piece from an old integra cluster and this is what I got so far. It looks better than before and I think I'm done with it for now. :P

  • I REALLY like it!!!
  • I'm really digging the blue, what was the bulb number cause several bulbs have burned out and I've been curious on how to switch them to blue.

    Props my good sir

Nice! I may ponder that if I ever have my cluster out, though I'd totally go for red instead. Better for night vision, which is why BMWs have had red cluster lighting for years - I loved it in my 320i.

The blue looks sweet, though! I like it!

Same reason they put them on submarines! :o And now you know

Edit: Did you put led lights behind the cluster to? I noticed you said something about yellow ones but it doesnt look diff in any other pic besides the first one. Reason I ask Is Im thinking of doing the LED mod and not using the top cluster lights so just the numbers would light up, and light up red of course

Bump for this. I'm tons big on LEDs anyone here able to point out the bulbs to replace on a 89 cluster? I'm trying to do the needles as well any tips on how to get them self lit like the OP has?

Oh and if anyone can post how one would "drill" on the ODO I'd like to find that out... Or pm me please :D

sory it's been so long since a reply, I just used some leds you can buy from advance and wired them in. The blue tint is from a diffuser plate that I got from an old integra cluster assembly.
  • im kinda looking to do that. but i want the lights behing the cluster changed. maybe a red or something, can someone point me in the dicerction. pm me
