DA dual map lite in Wgn.Looks great!!!

Last time I was at the yard I picked up a dual map light unit from a DA teg' (anyone see my teg' theme going here?)

Anyway, here we go.

Sweet haircut and sweet watchband, I know...

A little 12v tapsy from the dome light and corresponding ground spot never hurt nobody

Not shown: I drilled two small holes and used some hardware to attach the plate through the headliner.
Connect the wires you just ran from the dome light (make sure you label them in some way).

Push it back in, secure your hardware (I used machine screws/nuts/washers) and you can now see without having to do the reach around and flip the dome light whilst squinting.

Something also not mentioned is how awesomely this thing fits, too many parts were just meant to be between our cars and Integras. Another thing, for those that have pulled their headliner before will know this, there is the foam block directly above where I installed the map lights. That block is specifically there in order to "prevent" one from crushing in the bulge in the headliner. Make sure you put it back after the install because it helps provide a backing against the roof and secure the map lights.

Enjoy!

Sweet mod.. I'm all about good lighting! I have white led bulbs installed in all of my cars.. so much brightness :D I may have to hit the wrecker and source a DA map light :)

I've been throwing around the idea of using some LED's. You have any pics? Links or info on bulb type? It'd be nice at least for the map lights since they actually have a funneled piece of plastic that directs the light, so if I install LED's in there it shouldn't glare all over the interior and blind anyone at night.
  • Wow  That looks likes thats exactly where its supposed to go! Very nice OEM look!!
  • awesome...
    quick, plain & simple

I'm running these in my wife's T&C and the Durango http://www.hidoutlet.ca/leddomelight_js.htm they work really well and come with multiple bulb adapters to fit pretty much any bulb out there.. I've come across another type that runs 2 SMT led's and they are as bright as the 9 pack.. and 1/4 the cost.. I'll take some pics of them and some installed :)

I am loving this mod. My wife would like this better than anything else I could do on the wagon....

Nice work, I may have to consider this one...

Funny you mention that! After I installed the Integra suspension and showed her, she was like "cool..." with the whole "you just spent MORE money on that thing" undertone, lol. I showed her the map lights and she was like "that is awesome!".

Also, in case anyone is doing this the white/blue wire is the 12V source. The Red is for the door switch activation; run the white/blue to the white/blue on the teg unit and you will have your constant 12V.
  • nice.
  • i installed mine yesterday and it loks good and oe looking. thanks for the idea bro

i'm sure the price of that beat my price for my OEM map lights in my Crx last year :(

definately will have to look into getting one of these when the time comes (when I find a damn wagon)

I come across DAs in junkyards all the time, I'll see about snagging a few next time I go.

I wonder ... did DAs come with tan interiors? I don't want a gray light on a tan headliner.
  • skinnyskinny Senior Wagonist
Yes they did come with tan. Werd on the tan map light on tan headliner

ok so i got one of these map lights today for $2.

now, it was originally bolted to the Teg via a plate that was part of the sunroof. now, obviously we dont have this plate. so my question is- and i read through but couldnt really tell- how is this thing bolt/mounted/screwed to the car?

yeah, and what is some ???

I picked one up yesterday and plan on putting it in today. I am just going to get back straps. (half inch by 6 to 8 inch pieces of metal with holes in it used for mounting alarms, actuators, ect...) I also pulled the wiring and plugs that went to the a pillar. Im hoping the holes will be there so the wiring isnt just hanging if i take of the head liner. I couldnt find a tan one but I did find a gray. I think I am going to paint it black to go with the head liner anyways. i found a lot of integra's with tan interior but none had the sun roof. I noticed that if it didnt have a sun roof it wasnt going to have the map lights.

I used very small - maybe m6 or so - machine screws with washers for the holes I drilled along the edges of the plastic (the part that is paired with the headliner obviously). For the backing I used the nuts paired with fender-style washers that covered a large enough surface area on the back to provide stability. Just junk I had in my misc. hardware container.
Skinny's idea would work great as well. There is no bracketry mounted to the roof skin like there are in Integras so we are forced to come up with our own solution.

alrighty, so i took a broken interior plastic trim piece i had left over from my car lol and used that as the backing plate. used 2 left over screws from an old dizzy cap (they are perfect thread to the OEM bolts that the Teg had it mounted with) and voila.. its worked well =)

i guess i should get some pics of it....
  • wagodizzlewagodizzle Council Member and EDM expert
it used to be a rear door jam trim piece

  • thnx 4 all the info skin, noa, diz ..
quezzy...mayyybee it is glue gunnable ?

  • skinnyskinny Senior Wagonist
Thats a better idea then I had. the back straps could easily muff up your head liner if the lights are pulled on. i think I will go and do the same things. so now I need dizzy bolts.

It may be, but making some hardware suffice is a much more efficient way of doing it for 1 main reason: the removal. Glue gun + future headliner removal or bulb change make for much more of a pain indabutt.
