grafted hood???

hello.. ive done a quick search and i really didn't find anything on this.. i found a couple of threads of carbon fiber hoods being made, adjusted, and so far.. my question is..

has anyone grafted an sir hood onto a wago hood? is there a picture out there somewhere? im just very interested in seeing wat it would look like.. if it looked good i might look up how much my body shop would do it for me, if it was worth buying and ruining an sir hood..

  • I was under the impression that CRX hoods fit with some trimming but don't quote me on that, I could be mistaken.

Ive asked a few people that I know that do bodywork and everyone of them cringed at the amount of work involved to do this. I suggested a few ideas I had when looking into this, but none of them really lit up when I suggested, lol.

One idea was to plasma the scoop from the stock hood and reweld it back on upside down, but the supports came into play. The other idea was to trim like evol911 said, but youd be taking quite a bit of hood off of every side and the upright between the headlights is at a less steep angle than the SiR hoods. I have both hoods side by side in my garage and did a bunch of measuring, but I didnt write anything down.

If you want I can get the different measurements, but you would either need to know how to do this shit yourself, or know somone that would be willing to do it for you for beer, cause normal shop rates would kill the average joe like myself.

very true... im just an avergae joe myself, so i would probably have to pay the good money to have that done... i was just wondering if ANYONE has done it, because i would LOVE to see the pictures of how it looks.. i just know wen i put my sir front end on my crx, to me that is, it made a HUGE difference. just made the front end look bulkier and more SERIOUS. i expect the same on a wagon, but who knows, it might look stupid, and for me to bust some money that i really cant afford to spend on something that might look ridiculous is kinda my big fear.. lol when i hit the lotto guys ill do all the test fits for u!!!

I fell ya man. I am the same way with my hatch. Its weird too, cause Im not used to being able to see the hood on any of my Hondas, but on the hatch, its very visable. Throws me off when I drive it, which isnt very often.

Would love to see pix of your CRX. I really like the bumper on teh EF8's.
  • Hey guys not sure if ur still interested in carbon fiber hoods or not, but i'm talkin to someone from my area that does custom fabrication for carbon fiber products. I just talked to him and when i told him i wanted a stock hood done he said no, but when i told him there isnt ONE OTHER PERSON that has made them he said ok. I'm going to be talkin to him again in a couple days bout pricing. If i can get enough people interested, maybe i can work out a deal with him for the rest of you. Let me know

my crx isnt ready for photos yet... due the butt ugliness... lol its just different colors and needs to be painted... soon to be done.. but for me soon is like 6 months =/. oh btw.. NICE HATCH man!!! i like it, its simple and clean... just how it should be. ANYWAYS I FOUND A NEW PROJECT!!! DYING INTERIORS!!! READ UP ON A FORUM AND LIKED WAT I SAW!!!

and PS DOM. i believe there were already a bunch of inquirys on the carbon fiber hoods, i think they all died coz its just way too expensive to get them done... like everyone would like to see one first... atleast thats how i feel.. =( like i said earlier it could may very well look ridiculous on a wagon... maybe not.. hopefully not... SOMEONE DO IT!!! lol

honda tuning mag did a usdm style hood not an sir. im pretty sure the sir hood with the bump will have this huge gap between the headlights.. unless u just put the whole sir front end with bumper and bumper filler and headlights... hmm has that been done before?? lol i would like to see that too!!

why dont we just send one of our hoods to vis? or make a fiberglass one? it would be better then the alternative we have.

I'm finally getting somewhere with my hood search. I should have an OEM style CF hood sometime in the next 3-4 weeks. I delivered my stock hood about 2 weeks ago, and the individual is currently experimenting with different combinations of CF and foam core to achieve the lightest strongest hood he can produce. We're shooting for sub 10 lbs, probably closer to 8.

I know you guys are talking about something hybrid, but at least there will be a mould out there for anyone that wants OEM.

If this works out, I think he might be into making more.
