wheel offset

tried searching but no results came up. and the sticky up top just has what OEM wheels off other cars could fit. so maybe we could get this stickied up top also.

i was thinkin and lookin and there are a ton of different wheel setups with size and offset. also there are problems like rim hub size hitting the caliper and tire size rubbing the fenders.

so if i wanted to run a 16x7 rim what offset would i run? i dont want them to stick out past the car and i dont want to tuck since im not goin that low. i was thinkin like 40mm-35mm would be safe. i know i ran a 16x7 on my crx with a 40mm offset and it looked good.

also maybe in your reply you could tell what size rim/tire combo and offset for reference so another post isnt started like this again. or am i starting something already done???

  • go wider ... +25 would be cool
  • +40 would be the highest I would go with a 7" wheel. I am guessing you'd run a 205-215mm width on that wheel so anything much higher and you'd better watch the inner lip vs. suspension clearance.
  • I'm running +38 and they put the wheels right at the tips of the fenders.. They might might be 1mm out but it looks good.. If you get wheels with too high of an offset just get some spacers.

Just for the record (since we're collecting info on offset in this thread) - running a lot of offset, sticking your wheels out further from the center of the car and such, can and will wear out your wheel bearings a bit faster, especially if you're running sticky tires and/or driving aggressively. Having the tire stick out more puts more leverage on the wheel bearings, therefore more force, and therefore more wear.

Not saying you SHOULDN'T do this - there are good reasons to, for performance as well as looks. Just saying it's something to be aware of.

Does 90mph right hand turns count?

    I have a 15x7" +35et wheel on my shuttle with 195/50's

Its lowered but not a lot (not tucking) the front sits *just* outside the guards but the tops of the tyre are about flush. The rear sits well under the guards due to the camber (not camber correction) I have even added 5mm spacers to sit them a bit further out so they match the front a bit better.

The wheels are a stock size/offset for a VW golf so I would imagine that there wont be any damage caused to bearings or anything from this

I have some 15 - 6.5 42P and the wheels are close to flush with the guards
  • almost every build thread i look at has rims on the wagon. most of them have 2 or 3 sets.

how come only 4 ppl have posted???
  • id say 15X8 with 0 offset would be best... lol
i just test fitted my set and it looks sickkkkkkkkk but its gunna take some work
  • yeah i was looking at some 15".

    What about back spaceing?

IM lookin at the Borbet LV4
eather i can get it with a 5.08" backspaceing or a 5.51" back spacing

what would work better for the wagon?
  • Whats the back spacing in terms of offset?

    Also what width?

I would say you could go as low as 15x7" +25 all round without causing an issues with rubbing, especially when lowered so that they camber in

With that offset I highly doubt you are going to have any rubbing issues.

rt droped 5.5-6.0 on 15x7 +35 205-50. very minor fender roll in front tucking over half of the sidewall.
