Thanks mang. Using a 4-1 header with some custom hammer work, lol Still hits a bit, just need to do some more custom work. Just been so busy trying to get it to run right, which i fixed this morning Damn wiring!!!
Had the wiring at the distributor backwards. Both sensors in the dist have a resistance of 350 ohms, so the computer didn't set a code. They were just sending mixed signals which made the timing impossible to bring into spec. Runs great now, but want to make some solid motor mounts to better take advantage of the torque

thats great man, you will love this motor, its been my favorite for years. the zc dohc to me has always felt more peppy than the ls, its got that sports car power band rather than just a flat all tq low rpm motor. i always want more with the ls, but the zc has got the extra rpms i like to have + the wayyyy better gas milage. its looking good your car! hope tou have a blast with it!
But doesn't the LS gearbox have less desireable ratios? I would think that would be why it doesn't feel as peppy.
i wish that was the case, but ive had the b16 trans on ls before also the b18 gsr trans and it just didnt rev high enough to feel like the dohc zc. ive put the ls trans on a b16 and it felt great, shifts were out of the vtec range at times but a chipped ecu changed all that. chipped ls is a little to scary for my taste, you gotta put alot of money in the motor to rev high safely. zc on the other hand rev cut on my pm7 was 7800, i have beet the hell outta the zc and 100k mile rebuild, the motor was still clean, bearings were reuseable. ls rebuilds, higher rpms really wore the bearings. maybie just me but i fell in love with the honda motor because of the past 7000 rpm rev's. ls is a great motor dont get me wrong, but i just dont use them in my own cars anymore. stock zc to stock ls, zc always won the race dx trans si trans or zc trans! i vote dohc zc all the way!
if ya dont have the cash for a b-vtec zc is the way to go. this is just my opinion though.
So the D16A6 PS pump won't work on the ZC bracket? I'm thinking of getting a ZC soon and mapping out what I need to look for. I guess I could just put a non-power steering rack in
YA you need the p/s pump and bracket from the zc. That's for the dohc. Other than that it's a pretty straight forward swap. My solid motor mount is almost dry, almost time to put it in
You replace your headgasket?? I tried to get the HKS metal for my ZC but they are backordered two months, so I bought a Cometic one. Any pro's/con's with Cometic???
Idk for sure, i know with a metal one that is a bit thinner you could boost your compression up. And one thicker would of course lower it for a better boost app. I just went with a stock replacement for now.
Still have a few things to do still, my injector o-rings are now leaking abit so now i have a nice fuel smell coming from the fuel rail. Stinks pretty bad!!!
My suggestion is to give yourself a good weekend to do this swap. With the exception of my mixed up wires it took me from 745am till 6pm on a sat to knock this out. Working strait through everything, and i was in my shop with a lift and every tool i needed.
I've swapped many ZC's before, usually takes me a day. Never used Cometic before, I usually use the HKS gaskets. Don't want to tear the head off when its in the car if you know what I mean. If I didn't have to wait for parts I would probably have my ZC in by the meet at Edgefield, still pushin' as hard as I can to get it done though.
Slammedtallboy- Did your ZC intake mani have the mounting for the FITV? I have no where for it off the A6... I've heard you can just leave it unplugged and it won't set off a CEL. I don't remember having to deal with a FITV on any other A6 motors, I know my CRX's didn't have it. Maybe it's year specific or model specific? Anyone have some experience??
The only thing mine didn't have a spot for was a vacuum idle adjust on the throttle body. Just took the one off my A6 and put it on in place of the other. Thats the only issue as i can remember, maybe dif cause mine is an 88?
Who knows our 88's are the red headed step childs of the wagons, well next to the DX If you ever get that bad boy to obd1 hit me up and we will get it tuned.

Why don't you set me up with an obd0 PM6 with PM7 maps????? obd1 tuning is for the simpletons,,,,, turboEdit FTW!
