1991 wagon headunit install Quick Q

Tried searching:

Either way going to be installing a Pioneer headunit into my 91 wagon.

Went to get an install kit, guy said I didnt need one. I remember removing the previous headunit and it had a mounting plate with 2 screw holes, I gave that back to the previous owner.

Is it true I don't need an install kit?? Was that mounting plate OEM?

  • I didn't use a mounting kit for any of my wagons.

You just need to use that aluminum square bracket it comes with. That is all I used for mine.

yeah it soooo easy. i did mine in like 10 minutes. i used the mounting "sleeve" off of the factory radio and a wire harness from wal-mart. easiest radio i have ever worked on.
  • Yes, that mounting plate that you are talking about is a factory item. You need that to hold the sleeve for the new radio. If you don't have one you could pull one from a hatch or 4 door I believe.

    Alright good stuff, thanks!

Time to hit up the junkyard then.
  • Wait are you talking about the BLACK one that bolts to the metal frame?

    Yeah.
  • Yeah you do need that.
  • Make sure to get a wiring harness, it basically snaps onto the car's harness but the advantage is that
-you don't eat up the stock wiring
-you can solder it to the radio harness outside of the car (much easier) which typically gives you a better connection than crimps, that is if its a good soder, then you just snap it in there and wham bam thank you ma'm, you're done

Finally I actually contribute rather than just ask questions

Okay so to make sure the DIN plate that goes around the headunit is OEM??

I already have the harness, I work at Best Buy and its only buck with my employee discount.

Yes, you can see it on Majestic Honda.
