Front arms Wagon VS hatchback

Are front arm assembley (arm, rotor, hub) the same from the EF Civic Hatchback, the 2WD wagon, and the 4WD wagon?

Meaning, could I switch in EF Hatchback front assemblies to replace mine?

i know the 2WD wagon and hatchback DX have the same front assemblies. im pretty sure the 4WD does too.

i heard that Standard hatchback spindles are different, idk why though...

Spindles themselves are the same between the STD and the other models. It's the hub that is different. The splines on the STD axles are smaller than the CX/DX/Si, etc...
  • Nice, so I should be able to take any front assembley parts from any Si, DX, or 2wd wagon?

    Thanks!
  • I think the 4WD spindles are different. I've never compared the two side by side, nor have I seen pics to prove this, but I have my suspicions.

    Why?

The 4WD has it's own separate part number for front rotors, calipers, and brake pads. I thought they were larger anyways, so that leds me to believe the spacing for caliper hanger mounts is different on the 4WD spindles vs. all others.

    Anyone know for sure?

BTW I'm looking in the Genuing Honda wholesale parts reference guide to verffy the difference in parts here.

The wagons don't have wagon specific rotors or calipers, it just depends on year and brake disc offset. The offset varies from year to year.

Note; brake disc offset is different to wheel offset.

88-91(USDM) all use the same rotor. The 4WD calipers are lifted off the CRX Si.

I'm afraid I have to disagree with SiWagon. I looked up the part numbers for Hawk HPS brake pads on tirerack.com to compare notes between my 89 RT4WD wagon and my gf's 88 CRX Si. A little more digging for all 88-91 models reveals the following:

    1988-91 2wd wagon: HB218F.583
    1988-91 4wd wagon: HB113F.590

    1988-91 Civic Si: HB218F.583

    1988-89 CRX Si: HB218F.583
    1990-91 CRX Si: HB113F.590

That's right - the 90-91 CRX Si got an UPGRADE to 4wd WAGON brakes, NOT the other way around! Is that awesome or what? And ONLY the CRX got them, not the Civic.

The perk of this for us wagon owners is that all we have to do is order performance brakes for the appropriate Si model and we've got them for our wagons, 2wd or 4wd.

    Good info Justin!

Wonder why the EX sedan got the best brakes of all the ef's?

Good point. The Hawk HPS part number for a 91 Civic EX sedan is HB242F.661 - different than any of the wagons or Si models.
  • i dont find this as an upgrade at all, both calipers always felt the same to me. but what i dont like about the 90-91 si brakes are the pads are always a problem for parts guys to figure out, i say no, they say yea, i have to bring a pad to show them every time! and oh they always have to order them :(

Wow, was suprised at how many different cars that pn fits. I assumed the 90-93 Integra and the EX, but all the rest suprised me. They were a little confused with the sedan years though, lol.
