Yea, the z6 would give PGMI and it would be obd1 for tuning purposes. lol Pick up the 130hp and 32mpg!

ok, so educate me. i know exactly zip about swaps. what do i look for?

    stay d-series.

anyone? what is a ZC? This is the only Japanese car I've ever had, so educate me. From what I've seen i may be able to swap for same money or less than rebuild parts only. I'm still really reluctant to have a hybrid car, but it could happen...

Thanks. Should i hunt a donor car, buy an engine from an importer, what?

    Junkyard?
  • i personally would say importer, they would have lower mileage engines (30-50k) and price will be about the same. if you buy from a junkyard you won't really know what you've bought until you crack it open. the importer might have a warranty. another option is to check around with local shops and see how much they would charge to do it.

the zc is a jdm/edm d series motor, also one of the versions it came in was a SOHC vtec (1.6L)

the d16y series are great, but they have issues with the oil pumps, things you can do pretty easily but they are notorious for spinning bearings thanks to those pumps, also depending on which d16y? you get it may be obd II (not as good for tuning as obd 1)

i would ask what are you complete goals for this car and what are you future plans, and what are you willing to spend? all this should play into your decision, but i love the sohc vtec (with a lil turbo  )

Goals for this car are for it to be reliable and economical. If I wanted to build a fast car, I wouldn't start with a civic station wagon. Since this one is for my wife, it must necessarily be nicer than mine. She ain't a mechanic. I'll probably just rebuild a d15, I'm just curious about low mileage, better power, mild swaps.

That said, this isn't primary transportation, just a fun/biking car for her.

We know these cars will never be fast, but why not just a little faster? lol

Well. Friday night I pulled the engine from the parts wagon. Last night I tore it down. Today I should heve it built up, unless i hit a snag. (I gambled and bought a std/std/std engine kit, gotta go do some measuring now...)

Update: it's back together, now I just have to pull the blown one from her car, swap some accessory bits, and drop it in.

I was really impressed with the design of this motor, it's just like a real engine, only smaller! No wonder they run forever.

    Update:
Replaced headliner, re-glued roof skin to bows.

    71.jpg

Used junkyard headliner, has a couple dings right at the rear edge

    72.jpg

Gave evrything a good scrubbing while out of the car. Installed speaker pods. Will have to paint them, this is as clean as we could get 'em.

    73.jpg

New hatch struts, fit perfectly, even OE trim at the top end fits
    74.jpg

    75.jpg

Swapped antenna, console, various handles/clips/etc from the partscar. Now she's complete again, just needs body and paintwork, AC, maybe new seats...
  • bam-bambam-bam Council Member
