A/C problem.

Whenever i turn on my a/c it blows fine for about 5 minutes but then it looks like smoke begins to come out, it's really white and doesn't have a smell.

It is literally completely oderless and doesn't seem to effect anything, you can barely even see it, but it is pretty noticable if you watch.

any ideas?

water vapor. check that the condensate drain from your evaporator box thru the firewall is unobstructed. The hvac intake on our cars is completely unfiltered, and I've found gobs of sh!t in both of ours.

wheres the evap. box? and can i just pull it to find out?

simple test: park the car in a dry spot with the ac on. you should see water dripping kinda behind the transmission.

find that hose, kinda below the fuelfilter but above the steering rack, and clean it out. or... look behind the glovebox, above the ecu. There's a round housing on the right (blower), then just to the left of it a squarish one (evaporator). You'll see that the bottom of it funnels into a hose (same one as above). You can pull it off there and clean it. be advised that if you pull it out of its grommet thru the firewall it's a bitch to reinstall

it does drip behind the transmission.

The evaporator core is fairly easy to remove (relative to some others I've seen!), BUT will require (legally) removing the refrigerant from the system, then breaking the connections just outside the firewall before pulling it out from inside the car.
my advice? don't mess with it. clean the tube so that it will drain. If you have working ac, probably r12 even...let it be.

i dunno the difference in a/cs man, i just know it's the standerd crap that came in the 90 2wd models. it blows..decent, not very hard at all.

i might just take it somewhere and have it fixed so i don't end up destroying something.

yep, same hose. sorry, I'm not the best at explaining what is like breathing to me.

If the drain can't keep up with the amount of water being produced, the fan will blow some water through the ducts with the conditioned air. stick something flexible in the end of that hose and ream out the black funky goo (a zip-tie works well)

is it the hose about 5 inches below the fuel filter? in meets with the firewall. how hard is it to put that hose back in?

let me note, is it the one thats about as big around as a pencial? and has a metal clip looking thing that goes into the firewall?

ti's just an unnecessary PITA, there's really no reason to remove it. I did, and regretted it. just giving you the benefit of my experience.

Wait til during the day when it's hot, and run the ac until it's blowing vapor like you described. THEN stick your ziptie in from the outside and let the pent-up water rinse out the gunk you break loose.

you have me so confused man, if i don't pull the hose thats below the fuel filter from the firewall, then how do i stick something in it? haha. jeez man, you have my mind running in circles.

it's about pinky-sized, and i don't recall a metal clip, just a rubber grommet. look in the daylight, it's the one with water dripping from a cutoff end.

Here's the drain hose, directly below the purge canister (this thing)



Here I've removed the canister and its vent hose: That's the hose in question in the center just below the insulation

i really appericate you taking pictures and doing all of that, it was out of the way but i really really appericate it.

You really don't HAVE to remove the canister, but it just slides in its bracket and is easy. Makes for better access.

pulled the canister, removed the tube and blew in it, it's not clogged, it's completely clean.

any other ideas?

check that the place it hooks to (inside the car) isn't obstructed. On both mine that box was full of tree debris.

check your windshield if there is any signs of residu...

residu relates to possible leakage, check looking glas...
