^ don't mind the previous PS leak  Once the distributor is wired in and I get a chance to do a once over with a clean rag I'll put some better bay shots up.

Motor was in last Saturday after working on it a couple of hours Friday and hitting it hard Saturday(By hit hard I mean I was drinkin Friday night and didn't get to bed til 5am Saturday morning, got around to waking-up/working on the car about 2pm Saturday and stopped around 9pm). Busted two lower exhaust flange studs and forgot to get the Integ harness clips so I can wire the distributor in nice and tidy, so it sits. A weekend visit to the parts yard and it will be on the road. Ditched the A/C and PS, ran lines from the PS rack to the PS resevoir to keep it lubed until I find a Si steering rack.

ZC should be pretty spunky with a 7lb flywheel, underdrive pulley, 10:1 Cr and some other odds and ends. Probably post some video next week or so.
  • Lookin good mang. Now there will be 2 DOHC ZC swapped RT's in the NW 8) 8)

Old news bud... I totalled mine in 2005 lol

Looks good man! I might need to roll up and check her out one of these days!

Why are you going with an Si steering rack? Isnt that power also? I ditched all my power when we did my swap back in the day. I wouldnt recomend any women drive the car, but my friends and I did just fine w/o P/S. Admitedly, I'm addicted to non-P/S.... makes me feel like I've got more control. Just me...

Looks good man! But, I thought you were goin turbo? Either way I'm jelous...

No PS on CRX Si's but they do have a quicker ratio. Turbo is going on the A6/Z6, the ZC is just in to have something to play around with while I completely rebuild the other motor.

I'm sure I've probably been in your neck of the woods a couple of times Charb, on craigslist pick-ups. I was down in Burien like 4 weeks ago or so...

I'm pretty sure I didnt ask to be tallied. Just stating ZC's are easy bro... and you know this, ma'an! We need boost or B's... hell... we really need a K!

Good to know. The only 4th gens I've ever owned were wagons. And they both came with P/S. Is the rack a direct swap? I love the factory manual rack in my little light hatch. Feels like I'm driving a go-kart lol

I live in Kirkland, and work in Bellevue. If you're in the area, and want some bomb sushi... pm me :)

I had a friend that lives in Burien. Met him from the g2ic forums long ago, but stopped answering his phone a while back. His name is Jason and he plays in a hardcore band called Three Found Dead, and he installed carpet to support bills. He lived right by the huckleberry hut (<---bomb ass place btw). Totally ot, just seeing if it rang any bells. Id like to hear from him again.

Either way, the motor setup looks great, but passing on some info as a heads up. Painting the intake manifold is a kinda a no no unless its anodized. Paint/powdercoat holds in more heat, So your not suppose to color them. Not knocking at all cause I think it looks badass, but thats what I was told when I wanted to powdercoat my intake back in the 1900's.

Also, our Si CRX has power steering. Dunno if we got one that someone optioned out or what, but we didint install it.
  • I just did a light coat of trim black so it shouldn't retain too much heat plus I'm running a Hondata gasket so that helps too. I just figured the CRX's didn't come with PS because none of three I've owned had it but I'm sure it was an option. First Honda I have with PS is my Rt4wd, would've kept it but its easy to hack out the PS than find a DOHC ZC PS bracket :D.

Charb- Not into seafood at all but I LOVE GYOZA and SAKE!! Not together but you get the point...

i don't know about the crx's, but my Si hatch doesn't have power steering.
either did the Si hatch i had before it.

let's see good (not teaser) pics of the install.

  • Alright, ZC is in and running top notch! Besides having to get a new dizzy everything went fine. As always had a fun time getting the EACV working right when the coolant was drained from it. I swear they get air trapped in the coolant lines right there because anytime I get idle problems I just unbolt it from the intake mani and tip it up side down. Works like a charm! I filled the motor mounts with black silicone which stiffened them up quite abit but even with the motor running super smooth I can feel it. No more clunks in the rear end though. Not having PS isn't that big of a deal and it actually makes it feel like the front end isn't so loose, it feels more connected to the road. Definitely notice a difference using a lightened flywheel eventhough the the RT gears are short, the RPM's don't carry too much going up hills. I haven't taken it past maybe 4500-5000 but I can tell that this motor will love to be in the high Rrrrr's. The OG D16A6 that came out still had some pep but it can't compare to this motor one bit, the sound alone is amazing. Still running the stock exhaust and a hacked stock airbox but it does well. Gotta get rid of the PM6 fuel/ignition maps and I should be rockin.

    Just need the right ECU......

Is the PM6 ECU the one that comes with the stock A6 motor?

I used a D16A1 ECU for mine. Swapped the guts with the stock computer, so it would mount under the floor board correctly. When I did mine (granted it was 4+ years ago) I read that guys were using their stock A6 ECU's to run them. Though I never tryed/tested this.
  • skinnyskinny Senior Wagonist
It will run it but its gonna run our of fuel quick on the top end. the ign will be very diff from the a6 thats for sure.
  • Yeah the PG7 ECU from D16A1 Integ would work also but the PM7 ECU has the best fuel/ignition maps for the ZC.

Not waiting on the ECU anymore, the car is done. Now I'm just waiting on the 500 mile mark so I can do the first oil change since I swapped in the motor.
