ok guys im retarted about swaping engines and i dunno what engine do i wanna put on my wagon. i have a 90 rt4wd automatic and the engine is goin bad( is stock d16a6 engine). i want to know what vtec doch will fit in my wagon w not that many mods. im also planning to swap the tranny to stick if i get another type of engine. what do u guys recommend. im plannin to invest around 1000 bucks on that swap, both engine and tranny. please help. also plannin to turbo charge later. thanks guys

first of all, if you want to KEEP your stock 4WD you can only use D-series engines, aka no DOHC VTEC engines.

if i were you, id get a DOHC ZC swap, 1.6 L 137 HP non-vtec, 7200 rpm redline, etc. its still a very good engine and a direct drop into the stock everything on the 4WD wagons. no wiring, mounts, etc needed.

you can find these for cheap too, usually $400-800 bucks.

yeah dude, your tranny can hold way more then 137 HP.

if you are just going to swap motors you can keep everything original.. gosh this is such a deja vu, i just discussed this with someone else.

i think i read somewhere the stock tranny's for wagons can hold up to 300 hp?

i dont remember if it was the auto or 5 speed tranny. i read that LONG LONG ago. imo, boosting an auto is insane, so is even putting some "bolt ons" it's a waste of money.

i've got a friend with an auto Tiburon thats supercharger with 10 lbs boost...running 276 HP to the wheels. sexy sexy car he's made out of a Hyundai. he spent about $12,000 in performace upgrades alone, so whats a waste to one person may not be to another.

is cool man... thanks actually man for the help to get a new and better engine lol and yeah actually they took the tranny from a 89 rt4wd wagon and used for a hatch and they pulled 400 hp, that thing just lunch. well right now im tryin doch zc engine since it bolts in and yeah man, i will try to tell to my mom that i also have to change the tranny too so i just make it stick lol, i hope it works but i doubt, i will give it a shot though. yeah i want to know how much boost can that engine can handle now

since ive seen a h2b adaptor kit i was wandering if there is an adaptor kit for the rt4wd tranny and b-serries engine? you think there's one out there? it might be a good idea. what ya think my wagon people?

I think you can get a H2D conversion but unsure about B2D

The only way to keep 4WD and change it to a manual is to change the tranny to a 4WD tranny.. Good luck finding one of those..

Mhinkle- Most drag cars are automatics..

There is a lot of supras that are automatic.. Think about it.. You will never loose boost with an automatic.. You don't have to let off to shift, you keep it mashed to the floor so it is going to keep spooling.. etc..

BTW-
You aren't going to put anything other than a D into your wag for $1000.. Hell my mounts alone were $500..

actually the engine was ok. the mech was a retard and told it was bad. i still plan to swap a jdm dohc zc on her and the tranny will try to get from thedoodle he has one. i just have to save money. now right now the swap to stick is my goal. after that im pretty sure all the stuff will get easer.

Can you even swap it to manual since 4WD uses a cable shifter instead of linkages?
