Cheap paint?

I know there is a few home project ways to paint your car without an air compressor and paint gun.
i've read a lot about the entire "rolling on paint" ordeal and it just doesn't seem to safe for me.
I was wondering if I could just use spray cans of rustoleom paint?
they use rustoleom on the paint rollers for the car, so why can't the spray cans be used?
i could spray the car about 6 light layers, buff it with some rubbing compound then wash and wax?
any ideas on how this might turn out?

Not sure what you mean by "not safe"??
I did the roller thing 2 summers ago and I'm pleased with the results. The paint is called Armor Coat and is sold in quarts and gallons. I needed a single quart to paint the entire car. I think the whole cost outlay was about $12 with rollers and such.
However, I'll be doing some rust repairs on my car this summer and, as recommended on other posts, I'll thin the paint a bit this time.
Well, unless you are willing to invest lots of time and effort in sanding between coats and applying multiple thin coats, the results won't be "showroom quality" but will look decent to any regular person on the street.
Let us know what you decide to do.
Cheers !!
spray can jobs will always look like a spray can job no matter what... i would research a bit more on paint rolling. there are some goood articles on Honda-Tech.
or, send you car to maaco. if you do all the prep work yourself and such i think they are like 400-600 bucks.
what kind of prep work? like sanding primer? or just sanding?
ive read A LOT about rolling on paint, but i don't have anywhere to do it. i have a carport but it'd be too dusty.
im going to match them with the color of the car so they dont have that plastic look. like ZC's wagon and njcivicwagon's wagon.
what kind of prep would that need?
I painted the hood and most of the driver's side of this car. Previously the door was silver and the hood was badly faded red, so I gave them a couple of coats of black primer as well to help the color change. It's certainly not the prettiest or professional looking, but I was surprised how bad it doesn't look, really. It's a 50/50 paint job - looks good from 50 feet away while going 50mph.
We have a saying here for girls that are like that.
"Nice from far, far from nice"
i feel you on that one.
it looks really good imo. ive thought about doing what you did and satin black is what i had in mind or a dark blue color. thanks man!
wheres somewhere local i can get a cheap spray gun? example (walmart, lowes, etc)
can someone find me one so i can screw shipping?
I got mine from Harbor Freight
Here is a listing of the Harbor Freights in NC

When I did mine I believe I bought this gun and since it was so cheap it didn't matter that I had to throw it away after I was done painting since it was only $20

I did mine about 25-50% mix and didn't have any issues with orange peel. I'd say as long as you cleaned the surface really well you shouldn't have any issue with the paint.
I just used the same mineral spirits to clean the car that I mixed the paint with.
thanks for the help man
