EF9 Si-R headlights

are the JDM EF9 Si-R headlight housings the same shape as a regular EF?

we have a project hatch and are wondering if we could use USDM headlights and bumper filler with a JDM Si-R hood....

  • they are quite different. If you only use your jdm hood, there will be a big ugly gap. If you get jdm headlights and filler, then use your usdm bumper, there won't be a gap.

They aren't 'EF9' headlights, they are facelift EF headlights - 90-91 JDM and NZ New Civics were mostly all like that.

mkay, so i guess in order to have a nice look you have to get JDM headlights.

    thanks for the replies.
  • just to be clear, you'll also need the filler piece because it goes with the shape of the headlights and the hood.
  • wagodizzlewagodizzle Council Member and EDM expert
    yeah, thanks!

now the big question is, where to get these parts :?

really? whoa cool, so i guess that means these headlights are easy to come by then in NZ? :)
  • hahaha, "easy to come by"...

You could sell the hood... they sell for $300 - $400 all day long. Then you could take the money and put it towards other stuff.
  • wagodizzlewagodizzle Council Member and EDM expert
well actually i need a hood and bumper filler and headlights
  • Won't be cheap, but you can get that piece meal stuff from www.PasswordJDM.com
  • wagodizzlewagodizzle Council Member and EDM expert
yeah i tried avoiding password cause their prices are out the roof... oh well...
  • If you want genuine JDM SiR headlights then you can get them from the UK. Most people want to change them for EDM glass ones which are the same size and shape but on't use sucky H4H bulbs and the glass doesn't fade.
Seriously, having owned both the light output is terrible. I could drive round on main beam and no one coming the other way wouls flash at me :?
  • wagodizzlewagodizzle Council Member and EDM expert
yeah i would prefer the EDM glass lights..

my Teg had H4H bulbs and i always rode with my highbeams on since they were so weak, no one noticed either
  • jpciiijpciii familEE
ehhh, jdm (plastic) lights with the H4H bulbs are tons better than the usdm crap, without a doubt. They are a huge improvement. I think a couple of oil lamps would be better than usdm lights.

    usdm lights = complete garbage

really? i actually think my headlights are pretty decent right now, especially with the 9005 conversion.

at least they are way nicer then my integras w/ JDM one piece headlights were.

    EDM>JDM>USDM
  • jpcii: really ?
I had a USDM CRX Si and it had twin blub headlights with 9001/9002 bulbs I think ? We get the same lights here but with H4/H1 bulbs.
I thought they wrer pretty good tbh.

Is it that the bulbs suck there then ?

what the hell where you doing with a USDM Si?! anywho, the bulbs are 9006/9005. the 9005 (highbeam) can be modded in 2 minutes to fit into the 9006 slots so you have brighter lowbeam. if you spend a few extra $$ you can get some pretty nice bulbs.

so the EDM has two bulbs for the low/high beam as well? i noticed there are two types of EF headlights across the pond... single lens and dual lens and some ride height adjustable ones as well while others arent. what determines this?
  • Supposedly the adjustable headlights were only made for the German market. Again supposedly. It is a requirement on all cars from 1991 and up here. If for some reason you have removed it due to an accident or what not, or the motor for the adjustment doesn't work you will FAIL inspection here.
  • wagodizzlewagodizzle Council Member and EDM expert
ok that would make sense cause so far i have not seem any EDM wagon on this forum with adjustable headlights except for yours. and since its 1991 and up, well, they must be rare as hell... luckily any Civic lights work... but still, rare.. right?

    haha TUV = PITA
  • They aren't too rare. I can still get them but it is the switch that is hard as hell to get. They will pull the headlights and toss the car with the switch because of course if you are looking for the headlights you more than likely have the switch already.
  • wagodizzlewagodizzle Council Member and EDM expert
i have 2 switches i pulled from the junkyard when i was there but none of them had the headlights. there was one guy who did but he wanted 30 euro for ONE (and he only had one) so i was like "pshhhh..."

i went though 5 EFs, all with the headlights gone.

this summer when i go im planning on taking 2 empty suitcases in which some EDM goodies will fill :D
  • I am using the 88-89 JDM Si (Single bulb, plastic lens, same shape as USDM) in my Civic Hatch, and the light output is TERRIBLE. Seems to me like all older Hondas are that way though. Anything before the 96 + years seems to have really crappy headlights.

    Thanks for the correction :)
I dunno. I saw it on ebay over here and no one bid. The guy said just to turn up, find the keys on the back wheel and take it while he was on vacation.
    So did just that.
Drove down in the mrs (at the time) car, hot wired past the alarm and drove it back.
First time I'd driven a D16A6 or LHD crx.
The torque was pretty good compared to the D16A9 DOHC engine we got stock.
Sadly it was full of holes so got broken.
so the EDM has two bulbs for the low/high beam as well? i noticed there are two types of EF headlights across the pond... single lens and dual lens and some ride height adjustable ones as well while others arent. what determines this?

Twin bulbs in CRX 16V up to the face lift in 90 where by they went for single bulbs. The VT/SiR model was also introduced at this point but with slightly differnt headlights still single.

Height adjust is definately only Germany, and also only on the single bulb units.

The twins are far superior to the single units here.
I modded some SiR/VT headlights to work with the twin bulb units and stuck high power bulbs in them.
480Watts on main beam 8)
They are in my flat mate's car now.

Bummer is I just bought a CRX now and he wont give me them back so I'll have to make some more
  • wagodizzlewagodizzle Council Member and EDM expert
ok thanks a lot for that. i have a set of EDM headlights on hold by my dear friend ragenasian, and they are dual lens. its from an 88 or 89 wagon.

so the 88-89 had dual, the 90-91 had single.

could you tell me what type of bulbs the EDM dual lens headlights had?
  • Hey wago I have to check but I think the headlights I have for you still have the bulbs in there so you should be able to match them up when you get them.
  • wagodizzlewagodizzle Council Member and EDM expert
    sweet sweet 8)

oh, and i'll mail out the tails soon as i get my other ones... the ones i mailed should arrive any day now in the UK at which point Ned will mail the EDM ones back on the same day soooo, in about 2 weeks max i'll have my EDM stuff. so anywho.
  • Does Ned get a good rate on sending the tails over to you from the UK ?
I tried and failed to get a good price.

Im rbeaking another shuttle this weekend which will have more EDM goodness, plus I think I can get some more EDM tails from a guy on ebay.

Oh, to answer the question it's H4 for the hi/lo and H1 for the extra hi
  • wagodizzlewagodizzle Council Member and EDM expert
not sure if Ned needs rates or whatever, it was $42 for me to ship the bos over.... it would have only been $27 if the box was 2 lbs lighter :x those two pounds were from all the wrapping i used, ahaaha...

ok so the two-lens EDM lights had one H4 bulb for hi-lo and then an extra H1 for....? did it come on as an extra highbeam with the H4?

Well... yeah. But shipping would be just stupid.
