Would be easier and cheaper just to start with an RT4WD model.

absolutely anything can be done if you have time and money.

if you don't have a years salary and 1000 hours of free time, start with an RT.
  • yeah i been looking for one but here in the U.S, where i live in SANTA CRUZ AND SACRAMENTO theres none that i have seen, i been wanting to sell mine , but its still in good shape , just needs some work on the motor, i asked a Honda specialist he wanted 3 grand for the whole overhaul . i only saw a manual for sale for like 1500 in Pismo beach :(

i swear, the things we do for our cars...
  • yeah thats true the first time i saw mine its was first love in sight, and when it blew a head gasket i was so disapointed. But yea i do anything for my car and go far :D
  • i drove to the county just to get mine

    i loved my wagon
  • Yes you can put the RT4wd drivetrain in your car, and you can put the CRV drivetrain in your car also with a B-series motor swap (good luck finding a manual CRV transmission). The Wagon RT4wd is the best way to go, PM turbo_teg, I think he said he has some extra drivetrain parts, maybe enough to get you started. It can be done but it definetly is a time and money issue.

If it were me, Id hold out and find an RT. A project like that will nickel and dime you too death unless you have a wrecked one sitting there with absolutly every piece you need at your disposal. It took me 5 years to find my first wagon, 7 for the second. You has to be patient grasshoppa.

yeah found my first 2wd 5spd for $250 in a junkyard needed a clutch but drove it home kicking myself for selling. #2 $400 2wd auto out the back of some little po dunk repair shop drove home currently my DD. #3 on the way 4wd manual getting it in a trade for work believe it has clutch problems but it will live on. now i've been searching around and thinking about long drives for another some decent AWD's up north.
  • I actually started to convert my 90 2wd to 4wd. I have a wrecked 88 4wd. When I pulled all of the rear suspension out it was clear that this is a good bit of labor considering that all the floor mounted brackets for the driveshaft ect. are welded to the unibody. Which means a lot of cutting & welding. Not to mention pulling the whole interior out of both cars to avoid burning. Just buy a rt. peace!

i do have spare 4wd parts but it prolly would be a lot easier to just buy an RT even if u have to drive 24 hours
