Our '02 Xterra has started eating CDs(won't eject). OE radio is double DIN. There was an available Rockford Fosgate HU with built in 6 disc changer. Is there a decent aftermarket version of that? I see where you can buy an adapter to use a DIN with pocket, or EQ...
I'm NOT interested in a "system" or USB, ipod, blahblah. Only need a CD player 'cause there's not a station in ATL that plays the BeeGees, James Taylor, and Air Supply consistently.
Sooo... what to do? DIN w/ adapter, double DIN? I'd just as soon have stock, but they're more expensive than aftermarket.
If possible, I'd like a layout like an old string-tuner- on-off-volume on left, tuner right.

Easiest/cheapest thing to do would be to get a OEM CD player off Ebay. You can get that Rockford-Fosgate version for under $100 and the standard CD Player for under $60.
Or you can try Car-parts.com
I think one of the double-DIN DVD/NAV touchscreens (like the Kenwood , Pioneer or Alpine) would be awesome. But they are $700+
To clarify: does anyone make a double-DIN tuner/changer aftermarket, or are CDs that passe? $700 don't scare me, but I don't watch TV at home, sure don't need one in my car. Told you I'm a retro-grouch!
Would it be better to get a DIN head and a remote changer?

Most of the time you will get a wiring harness with this that will plug right into your factory one. If not they usually sell that stuff too. These are just a few of the ones that came up for the 2002 nissan xterra
The typical double din touchscreen does it all...all the functions you're used to in a car stereo, plus the ability to navigate, watch a movie on a long trip(she might like that), and bluetooth handsfree for cell phones.
But for a $100ish, you could be upgrading to (A) a working/functional unit, (B)5 more disc capacity, (C)bolt-in clean/easy installation...and if you're particularly clever, you'll get one of the later MP3 capable Rockford Fosgate OEM units and figure out how to install it in your '02. Six discs with MP3s burned on them will conservatively give you a 700 song library to pick from. Screw the remote changer.
It'd be hard to reach.
